AAAAAUUUUUURRRRRRGGGGGGG! BLEEPING BLEEPED BLEEPS!!! MONEY GRUBBING HARD COINED STEALING BLEEPING BLEEPED BLEEPEDETY BLEEP BLEEP!!!!
A cautionary warning before you purchuse the wondrous new "revision" to D&D, while remarkably informative and entertaining, looking at the receipt for all three volumes after purchase is, inadvisable. Thank you.

| At GenCon WoTC was handing out conversion documents: a quick 30ish page reference book detailing specific 3.5 rules changes. These may be floating around the net in pdf format soon or, if not, wizards will most likely make them available. In any case, you are not required to re-purchase your core books in order to update to 3.5. Good to know that Hasbro isn't completely evil. |

Actually that's what got me set on repurchasing.
The pdf revision overview hinted at "the changes in specialist wizads" and other hints related to thee players hand book, and i wanted a better look at golem making in the monstermanual... So i wound up buying all three today, along with "races of Faerun, but i did get a discount from waldenbooks and they gave me a fifth book free (Silverfall, stories of the seven sisters). It's just what really upset me is some of the changes in specialist wizards. One of the things i loved about third edition was you could create a necromancer with just one school restricted, now you have to have at least two. Only the Diviner can get away with just one anymore... A lot of stuff does look interesting though, i guess it just bites a little to practically buy most of the same info over again...

It does, yes. But you have them now, so you might as well enjoy them :p
I really do like the revisions presented in the 3.5 PHB, at least for the most part. The Druid is crazy good now, while the Bard is still "blah". The Fighter remains a bit vanilla, but the new issue of Dragon has some options to spice it up. Combat flows much more smoothly with 'squares' instead of inches, blanket cover rules, and simplified "line" mechanics.

In all honesty...
Besides the animal companion, how the heck is the druid any different?
I like some of the changes, but Druid just seemed to be changed for change sake. There is no improvement on the Druid whatsoever. WHY should a druid be able to Spontaneously cast?
Some classes needed to be fixed, but other classes I think were changed to fit a marketers quota on "Changes to make a new product". Specialist wizards was also one of these changes.

The druid has a 3/4 BAB progression, two "good" saves, 4 Skill points per level (a cleric gets 2), an innate polymorph ability starting at 5th level (str 30 at lvl 8?), full spell progression up to and including level 9 spells, a pseudo permanentt animal companion that advances as the druid advances (costs the druid nothing), and spontaneous casting. The drawback? She is very limited in her choice of weapons and armor... boo hoo
A rewording of the Polymorph spell, and alterations to the animal companion rules were really all the druid needed. Finished...done, but for some bizarre reason, a designer felt that Summon Nature's Ally X should be spontaneously castable *rolls eyes*
Oh well, I shall enjoy heartily the new ranger and druid, and lament the bard. |

Hahaha! I wouldn't put it past 'em Rad. They'll probably turn our beloved game system into another Magic:The Gathering. Next that'll happen is they'll publish a new magazine like "Scrye" for the ever changing rules that'll no doubt take place.
Give it a rest Wizards! Do something worthwhile, like expanding the existing game system or world, intead of completey remaking it. |

Even though, I do like most of the changes that were made in 3.5. It does hurt the wallet. I can understand wanting to streamline game play and evening out the classes, but they could have waited to put out some of the newer books. (Monster Manual II etc.) Another thing that burns me, is the fact that when the original 3ed books came out Wizards said that they were going to keep all of the books $20.00. We have all seen how long that lasted. |
Wow! That has no saving throw written all over it. |

| When the 3E core books came out Wizards was very precise that the $20 price was a limited-time promotional deal. |

All you need to do is sign on a few good marketers, and money gets made, but the people that truly love a product get ripped off.

I haven't seen much that's all that spectacular in the new version. Yes, there are a bunch of good revisions that I've seen, and probably I'll find more once I take a closer look. But so far I've seen absolutely nothing that wasn't able to be covered in a small suplement.
They are after more money with this. Want proof? Look at the things that were added after the original 3e core books came out. New feats, skills, spells, weapons, prestige classes . . . . If I were in charge of this stupid 3.5 project, I'd have put a lot of that in one book for all the gamers I'm supposedly "helping." I'm sure that many of you who have actually played have quickly gotten sick of bouncing from book to book.
Sure, some of the stuff I mentioned got into it. For instance, the Dragon Disciple PrC. Some few spells. Perhaps some feats, though I haven't taken a close look at them. And I know that with some -- the PrCs especially -- it would have filled things up too much. But they could have put in the more popular ones, or the ones that aren't all-munchkin-all-the-time, like the Dragon Disciple is. Something like the Archmage, which isn't FR-specific. Or the Duelist, a favorite of mine ever since I saw it. (And the first one that inspired a personality for me to make a character from sometime in the future. None of the others did that for me.) |

Call Lightning can be cast indoors. And if you're outside it's the friggin wrath of God. Call Lightning Storm is even worse.
I actually really like the changes, especially the Bard.

Bookwyrm I do beleive they put the archmage in the DMG revision. I don't have it yet so I am not 100% certain, but I think I saw it. I agree, Archmage is one of my favourite prestige classes along with Duellist.

You're quite right. And so is the Duelist. And the feats are really quite extensive.
Perhaps I need to see a gnome about some new glasses . . . .
Still, the other parts stand. Especially the spells. And I noticed some feats missing -- including the spellcaster feats Energy Substitution and Energy Admixture. |

The Energy Substitution feat I believe has been modified and now has a new name. Although I have yet to locate it in the SRD.
Does anyone else know anything about this?.

| That's crazy. It's a wonderful feat. And there are tons of conflicts in mechanics with the third-party stuff I've seen. Why get rid of something that works? |

I agree. Although what really annoys me is that something that was presented in core-material had to be reworked to conform with third-party publications. This just lays the whole d20 core-rule system open to change by outside influence. Everything else should change to conform to the stable d20 mechanics core rules.

| I haven't bought the 3.5 books yet, nor am I too eager to. I just got the 3E books, and I think I'll stick to them for now, if not for the next few years. so far I haven't run into much for confusion that I couldn't clarify with a bit of further research. I think perhaps if I do buy the 3.5, I'll get them off of Ebay and save myself the pain and suffering to my already anorexic wallet. *opens it to see dead starved moths fall out* see, even they ran out of food. lol. |

| I've got them. My 3.0 PHB was showing some serious wear and my Monster Manual was amost bent in half (don't ask). I was due for new so I figured what the heck. I really like them! I'll probably just move my campaign up to the new edition once my players catch up and I finish of my current campaign. Soon. |
