I am currently working on rewriting the UK adventure series and placing them in the realms. The first one to get placed will be UK5, as it is the lowest level one of the bunch.
UK5- Eye of the Serpent
I am placing it in the Northern end of the Thunder Peaks. (Or, if you are using the 4e map, in the Twin Peaks of Urlspur, north of the Thunder Peaks.) Either way, the adventure takes place in the mountains, and will pass the source of the Immerflow.
The first major change is the opening... I dislike the forced bit where a roc or two picks up your entire party and dumps them at the beginning. I m rewriting it to have the party arrive through a one way portal. I'm still threshing out the details on that bit, but it feels a little less contrived and railroaded.
The second change is to allow all the paths off the mountain, not just one specific path. This means at each split point, I need to add some flavor text to give the party options going down off the mountain.
Some of the creatures are being replaced, but for the most part that is a matter of mechanics, it being easier to use an already published monster than to update the few beasties in the adventure that were not rewritten into 3e/3.5.
I am planning to replace the references to worshiping snakes (Dwarves worshiping snakes, no thanks. ) with references to Dumathoin (they were mining gems there after all).
The Kharg will be a bit more civilized in my take on the adventure, being ranchers, who, while still insular, do interact with the people of Tilverton a bit (mostly to sell there excess horses and buy things they cannot make for themselves).
And, in case it matters, the adventure will take place sometime in the 1340s DR.
So, a few questions for those who know the adventure or the area I am dropping it in...
*Do you have any other ideas for dropping the party near the peak of a mountain that doesn't feel like "the ashtray of the DM" (as my friends call it when a new PC is just sort of dropped into an adventure midway with little to no reason)?
*Are there any sources I can check out to read up on dwarves who might have lived in that area previously?
*Has anyone else ran this adventure with their group, and, if so, what did they change to make it more interesting?
*and of course any other comments, questions, and/or concerns are welcome, too.
Thanks!

| Thunderholme was a dwarven city in the Thunder Peaks. It fell to the shadow dragon Aurgloroasa in 1054 Year of Tolling Terrors. Thunderholme is covered in 2e Player's Guide to the Forgotten Realms and Aurgloroasa is in Cult of the Dragon. |

| There are also some tidbits about the Thunder Peaks in Volos Guide to the Dalelands, if I´m not mistaken. |

Thanks. It's hard to remember where all the tidbits are. At least I remembered Elminster's Ecologies. >_<
I'm thinking a malfunctioning portal that drops the group at the peak might be nice. Then when they are a little higher in level, they might try to fix or at least stabilize it and see where it is supposed to go. |

| You could also have something chase them hard towards said portal...gives you another loose end for later levels. |

Okay, almost finished with UK-5 conversion.
I'll be running my group through it Wednesday night... if it doesn't fall apart, I'll post about it here. I've found most of the monsters were either updated or easy to replace. (Blood hawks? Just used hawks, thank you very much.) And if it does fall apart? I'll still post about it. Depending on how it goes, it may take more than one night. We'll see.
I think I will have something force them through the portal. Still trying to decide what they encounter that they run from. Have to make it blatantly obvious they should run... or they will try to fight. My group just doesn't understand withdrawal actions at all. :p |

So don't force a withdraw. Give them someone they'd want to chase, and have him/her/it run thru the portal. |
