(Or, possibly, Tales of the Necromantic Lovers.) This curiously-titled volume was in a library which a character of mine inherited. Since one volume (Manual of Garden Flowers, if I recall correctly) turns out to have been a treasure item with a special power (see "Orlow's Inventions Can Liven Up Your Life," by William Fawcett in Dragon Magazine 30), I'd like to know if any of the puissant scholars here recognize the title of this other book as something which was written up in a book or magazine, and would please be gracious enough to tell me what special power(s) it may have or what secrets it bears (secret pages, cryptograms, etc.)?

Of course, it could just be a necromantic bodice-ripper -- after a hard day crafting a staff which casts circle of death a hard-working specialist necromancer has to relax with something, right?

I have a mouth, but I am in a library and must not scream.

I just read Complete Necromancer again, and it doesn't strike a cord (and there were several Necromantic book titles mentioned in there).

Edit: There's a list floating around somewhere - I think compiled by Steven Schend, IIRC - of all the canon books ever mentioned in FR lore.

Found that list.

Didn't see Tales of the Necromantic Lovers on it, unfortunately.

Edit: If you want to become irritated, read the list of Volo's Guide titles.

Those Volo's Guide titles were not necessarily ones that were intended for print. Steven once said that they didn't work on those other ones, those titles were just extrapolated from the ones that had been done.

Krash expanded on Steven's list... I think it's out of date, but his expanded list is located on this site. Book List for Tomes in Candlekeep

Sounds like (hopefully) nothing more than tales of romance featuring vampires... anything beyond that gets into the realm of "extra creepy."

Also, look at the chapter epigrams of much of Ed Greenwood's and Steven Schend's fiction. They're both some of Realmslore's great unsung treasures, and convey better than anything how much more there is of the Realms than what the sourcebooks and novels have dwelt on.

Sure, but it's still irritating when you think of how great it would have been to have Volo's Guides for all those areas.

Like that story about the lich and the prostitute?

Steady, mate!

Dear Sage, I and others have already sung (or at least asked about) the chapter headings (and see the poetry of Rudyard Kipling for some truly great singing -- or at least lyricism -- about the Gods of the Chapter Headings). I, as a reader, often note such marvels and then hand them back to my players when I am running a game. Just a couple of days ago I decided to lay something of Mintiper Moonsilver's in their path, while I have a notesheet of Thayan zulkirs whose names are worth using and writers and writings with which they may be familiar and which are worth dropping along the path as they progress along the trail which leads to The Throne of Deceit.
