The FR campaign guide (3rd ed) states that no two powers in the same pantheon may have the same portfolio, yet I can see several examples of duplicated portfolios in the Faerunian pantheon list. Is this simply an error on behalf of the writers or is it deliberate?
I wondered whether there was an element of shared-portfolios as a result of the Time of Troubles or not.
Also, did the non-Faerunian pantheons also suffer in the ToT? Was there an avatar of Lloth running around somewhere, or Blibdoolpoolp holding court in a ruined undersea temple?

Much of what you're seeing is an artefact of oversimplifying the nature of divine beings into half-dozen-word summaries. Also, lesser/subsidiary gods of divine groupings often likewise preside over particular aspects of larger areas. But we'd need to look at specific cases.
Yes, they were also sent down, see Tom Costa's accounting by copying and pasting this URL: http://web.archive.org/web/20060101225331/http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=books/fr/deitytrouble |

Well a specific case (from the top of my head as I'm at work) would be that of Garagos and Tempus both having ownership of the portfolio of War. |

There, it's the FRCS's comment about no two gods having the same portfolio that's an oversimplification. As discussed in Faiths & Avatars, there can be one primary god of something in a pantheon and theoretically any number of demigods. In this case, Tempus is thought to have fought Garagos and taken the status of primary war god of Faerūn, reducing Garagos to demigod rank. |

I'd like to see that again, I've been working on some ideas for some pantheons, etc, and it might give me some thoughts.

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

I wouldn't mind seeing this list also, Dagnirion. |
