What can I say about Icelin so far? Well, her gift of having a perfect memory is very interesting. Funny thing, it reminds me somewhat of my girlfriend in a way (she remembers obscure things from time to time)...but the way it is portrayed in the novel so far is excellent. Great character trait that makes this story easy to follow (who can forget a character that can't forget?).
I'm eager to find out more about Cerest. At first, he pegged me as something of a good character, but was quickly steered to his bad side. Could it be that he is something in the middle perhaps? Can't forget an elf with so many disfigurements.
And Ruen is a bit of a mystery at this point, but I'm sure we'll learn some interesting bits of information pretty soon. |

I still have mixed feeling about the protagonist, "magic went bad so now I don't use it anymore" felt a bit unoriginal to me, but I may change my mind about it.
I don't like Cerest, but Sull (butcher) is a very interesting characters.
At this time, I hold my judgment on Ruen. |

So far Sull is my favorite character, I like the idea that a "normal" citizen can step up and be a protector to someone in need.
I think I will like Icelin, but need to see realize that those peoples deaths werenot her fault and I a m not a big fan of magic user casting leaves them so weak they faint business. But, I do see room for and signs of growth for her. Ruen is as interesting as he is frustrating. Is he a theif or a monk? I dont see how both go together, but you are making me think it can work.
Cerest, I just do not like and I think that is what you were going for, so great job with him he as a real self-centered sob of an eladrin! |

Frustrating is a good word for him. Is he a thief or a monk--he would tell you he's a thief, but he can't get the monk completely out of him, no matter how much he tries.

I did not understand why she was invited there. I did not understand her role in the meeting. But maybe it is developped later in the story...

What is the way she is able to evaluate the jewels ?
Thanks to her memory, she can evaluate the value by comparing it to those she saw before?

Not at all, it's my pleasure.
Icelin can access the coin value of the jewels based on what her great-uncle taught her about appraising--he mentions this near the opening of the novel. Icelin would remember his lessons, as you pointed out, because of her perfect memory. The appraisal skill allows Icelin to be able to select a valuable jewel as payment for her services. But what Kredaron needs her help with most is evaluating the magic in the pieces, so Cerest doesn't try to cheat him by claiming the jewels have no magical value, thus lowering their price. Does that help? |

Oh no need to be sorry, Fillow, I got the joke, and it made me smile. It's just I've been finishing up some revisions on my current writing project and I'm getting ready to start in on a brand new one, so I've had a hectic couple of weeks and not much time to post. Sorry for the silence.

1-Yes, this is correct. Elgreth refers to Faerūn as female, in the same way a sailor might refer to ships and the sea in the feminine.
2-No difference in meaning, just an error on my part, I'm afraid. Sorry for the confusion.

Just finished chapter 7. I must admit that I'm really enjoying this novel thus far. Jaleigh, I really like your style of writing. It flows so smoothly. And action right from the start of the novel! Fantastic! The characters are great as well.
Icelin seems like she's been sheltered for most of her life and is now beginning to see the big picture of Waterdeep -- and Feerun in general. It appears that she'll have a lot of "growing up" to do by the end of the novel. I really like how you portrayed Sull. Just an "average Joe" albeit a giant of an average Joe! It's refreshing to see a character that's not all good looks and a warrior...he's a butcher. Ruen is an interesting character. Can't wait to see how his story develops. And the villain! Great portrayal of Cerest. Seemed like such a nice guy that must have gone thru some bad times with all that scarring. Turns out his personality matches his appearance.
Can't wait to read the rest. Great job so far Jaleigh! |

just started the novel got to the end of chapter 7, enjoying it liking all the characters especially Kersh hope to see more of him and Sull I Liked how he added spices to the woman's dish as payment instead of coins, also liked how the description of the dusk to dawn pub with how it moves about
I did think Sull helping a stranger was a bit odd through at the start and I also had a minor problem with all the "lass" words in the novel at the start, http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13947
question do other elves look down at other elves with skin conditions?
I don't trust that Tesleena anyway abck to the book
