How do you calculate the wealth of individuals, of guilds, of cities, of states?

I am currently designing a Noble merchant house in Saerloon for my campaign, and, trying to determine its wealth, i cannot find any point of comparison on which to base it. What would reasonably be worth all the active and passive of a powerful house?
