Okay, so I know that Sylune is now dead dead, and that Qilue is apparently gone for good (insert a Darth Vader-ish "NOOOOOO!" here), but what about the others? Are they supposed to be just 'offstage' or were they killed (or depowered or driven mad)?
Man, the more I find out about the 4th Ed Realms, the happier I am that I'm not spending money on it.
PS -- Just where can I get information on the Sisters aside from the 2nd Edition book?

To answer your question about where you can get information on the sisters, there is the novel Silverfall: Stories of the Seven Sisters by Ed Greenwood which contains a story for each of them. Also the novel Stormlight by Ed Greenwood, which is about Storm. There is also The Simbul's Gift by Lynn Abbey, which focuses on The Simbul (although this one is popularly an innacurate portrayal of The Simbul). |

Oh and the Seven Sisters make numerous appearances in various other novels (The Drizzt novels feature Alustriel, many Ed Greenwood novels show Storm, I think Quilue is somewhere in the Starlight and Shadows novels, and other novels that escape my mind at the moment). |

Alustriel is also done in apparently, but as far as I know the Simbul has survived. |
If I were a ranger, I would pick NDA for my favorite enemy |

Sylune is dead-dead, Alustriel is dead, Laeral is dead, the Simbul is living in Shadowdale, Storm is *not* living in Shadowdale (whether she's alive or dead, I don't know), Dove is not mentioned at all in the 4E Realms book, nor is Qilue. And before you ask, no, I did not pay money for that heretical waste of paper. I wouldn't want to physically touch anything like that without surgical gloves. I'm working on an alternate timeline, but I'd like to know more about the war between Cormyr and Sembia, if anybody knows anything. |
Playing in the Realms since the Old Grey Box (1987)... and *still* having fun with material published before 2008, despite the NDA'd lore.

Qilue died in the Lady Penitent books. As for the Sembia/Cormyr war, it's an extension of the dislike between Shade and Cormyr. Shade has taken over Sembia (detailed in Paul Kemp's novels) and basically has Cormyr trapped in a two front war between the Sembian states and their lands in Anauroch. |
I actually DO know everything. I just have a very poor index of my knowledge.

Okay, so, to summarize: Alustriel: dead Laeral: dead Sylune: dead Qilue: dead The Simbul: living in Shadowdale Storm: seriously injured by Shadow Weave in Shadowdale in 1374; nothing more recent known to me Dove: see Laeral |
Playing in the Realms since the Old Grey Box (1987)... and *still* having fun with material published before 2008, despite the NDA'd lore.

As I recall, Ed said back in August that the fates of Dove and Storm were unknown [though we do know either Dove or Storm are definitely NOT dead in the post-Spellplague Realms].

Wow.
The body count rises.
Were they just...dare I say it..."unpopular" characters? Did they not sell well or something?
I mean...I can think of MANY other characters I would have preferred seeing having their faces melted off than Alustriel... |
My latest Realms-based short story, about a bard, a paladin of Lathander and the letter of the law, Debts Repaid. It takes place before the "shattering" and gives the bard Arion a last gasp before he plunges into the present.http://candlekeep.com/campaign/logs/log-debts.htm |

they stepped on toes doing this too |
why is being a wizard like being a drow? both are likely to find a dagger in the back from a rival or one looking to further his own goals, fame and power

To be fair, Alustriel did just "pass away", which implies a more peaceful death than that.
Still, I agree with the spirit of your post. |

Questions for all, because I don't have the FRCG:
Where is it stated that Laerel is dead?
Where is it stated that Storm was injured by the Shadow Weave?
Where is it stated that Storm and Dove are definitely not dead in the Post-Spellplague Realms?
I'm only asking these questions because I want to be "up" on things. Thanks in advance. |

Ok, first--eww. That's an image that'll keep me up--and maybe end up in a piece of writing down the road.
Second, as far as we know, Alustriel retired and came to a peaceful end, for all we know in bed surrounded by her many children and (probably) grandchildren. Sometimes that happens in the Realms, and I don't see why characters shouldn't be allowed to retire and die peacefully.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but near as I understand it, Qilue fell in an ultimate battle for her deity, and Sylune perished heroically averting some great disaster? Hardly cheap or ignominious ends.
I think that it's better, in a narrative, for heroes to die heroically than to live on, lose popularity, and fizzle out.
Now whether this is how the lore treats these characters is another question. But I don't object to them being dead simply because they are *dead*--it's about the *how* and *why*, not the fact of it.
I'd be curious to know about Laeral, whose fate we haven't seen (or at least I haven't). Maybe Ed or Steve will tell us in a later tale. (hint hint!)
Cheers |

A hero that sacrifices themselves for a reason or purpose, I can enjoy.
A hero that lives happily ever after and dies peacefully in their sleep, I can also enjoy.
A hero that dies senselessly because they've become inconvenient . . . . . really ticks me off. |

That's really what bothers me about many of these deaths. It's obvious that several of the sisters died because WotC didn't want them around anymore, even if on the surface the deaths were made out to be "meaningful". |

Absolutely agree. In fact, Syluné died well twice. A good NPC, if they have to die, should die for something worthwhile, not just to show how dangerous a new villain is. Of course, killing major NPCs is something that shouldn't happen every day, or else it doesn't mean anything. |
