I was wondering if anyone had any information about why some of the information from Dragon #228 was not included in the Grand History? It seemed like the content from 1996 had a lot of backstory to add, especially to the names of the years. Example:

From Dragon #228
218 DR, Year of the Dancing Lights: Will O’ wisps are seen in profusion all over Faerūn in this year; some sages believe this marks an invasion of the strange beings, perhaps through a gate unwittingly opened by a human sorcerer, from another plane.

From Grand History
218 DR, The settlement of Krenadir is founded in Lurien.

--or-

231 DR, Year of the Mist Dragon: A gigantic dragon of this rare species appears in the lands around The Sea of Fallen Stars in the spring of this year, challenging and slaying any dragon it can find. By winter, it has amassed a huge treasure... and the first of several hundred fruitless adventurer-forays sets forth from Calimport in search of what bards came to call The Shining Hoard of the Great Dragon. (For some 60 years the mist dragon slays adventurers. After that, no trace of it or its hoard can be found.)

Anyone have any ideas? Or maybe just an oversight?

My guess is that it was a space issue.

I simply don't own Dragon Magazine issue #228, so it never made it into my manuscript.

And I didn't have enough time to go through all the stuff I had that Brian didn't. We also didn't really know how much space we had. We just kept adding stuff until the deadline hit.

Wow, I thought WotC would have supplied you with all the resources at their disposal to print the book...I had no idea you had to rely only on resources you and the others had alone.

It makes me even more in awe of the work that was done!

This thread made me think that maybe we should start a file that can be hosted on Keep that includes some of the missing dates that aren't in the Grand History.....

Just an idea....

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

I like the sound of that. Scribes, after checking to see whether or not a particular date/year is referenced in Grand History, could contribute them to a handy listing here, as they find them.

Alaundo, do you think we could make room on the Sages of Realmslore shelf for something like this?

And as I noted the other day, there are things in the pdf version that aren't in the print version.

Indeed, I was reading your thread as well the other day and these two threads made me start pondering the idea. :) But I guess it depends on if people are interested in putting together such a file.

As there are things in my personal version.

I keep meaning to get back to my consolidated timeline but it's such a time drinker that it's hard to get motivated. Eventually.

Excellent idea!

I've come across dates in source and novels that don't appear on any of the timelines (mostly concerning K-T stuff), and it would be great to see all of these brought together!

I also started woorking on putting the references back into the print version, by making up a list, but its hard to do without constantly referring to the text included in each entry.

Maybe I'll looking into doing it agian - I never got very far after the initial idea.

I offer my <R.A. Salvatore Realms Works Chronology>, which includes explanatory notes for dates differing from the official WOTC timeline, based on the time clues within the works themselves.

For what it's worth, I am still compiling an Elven chronology more detailed than what is in AGHotR, so, whenever that is done (don't count on anything anytime soon, mind you), I'd share.
