It just hit me and I was wondering if Ed or anyone has ever addressed this topic. Many states are governed by a hereditary body and their chosen lords. However, are there any states that you can think of that have voted in leaders or would have propositions voted on by the populace? If there are any instances of that, is there any note of only people who are X or Y being allowed to vote. The other question where someone was asking about land prices made me think about it (land owners only being allowed to vote possibly in some places, therefore land costs being higher).

Turmish is a republic, I'm not sure what the voting details are but the Assembly of Stars (the governing body of Turmish) is voted into office. At least as far as I remember, it's not come up in my game so I haven't gone back to look it over but I'm pretty sure they're voted in.
Otherwise, small, independent cities might vote and then it'd depend on the city. I'm not sure about other places though, I can't recall any others, off the top of my head, that vote. |

Ed briefly touched on voting in a religious body in his '04 replies.
If you're looking for specifics though, I'd suggest a thorough search of the various city/regional sources -- like The City of Ravens Bluff or The North boxed set for example, for details about individual voting practices in different parts of the Realms.

| Hmm there are some examples of voting, the Seceret Lords of waterdeep vote, merchant guilds appear to have votes and so on, however a general public vote appears rare if one is looking for a Democacy it would be hard to find I would thing. |

| Several leaders are elected by the people. The ones that comes to mind right now are in Shadowdale and the Wizards' Reach city Delthuntle. |
There is a rumour going around that I have found god. I think is unlikely because I have enough difficulty finding my keys, and there is empirical evidence that they exist.

Is it by family, husband & wife, father having votes for himself and all his family, votes only for landowners, etc.... There wasn't anything in the recent module, correct? |

Don't think so, no. From what it sounded like at the end of Shadowdale:TSotL, it sounded kind of like election by general acclamation.
Silverymoon has also elected leaders from time to time (maybe some of the other Silver Marches cities, too, can't remember). |
