Hey all,
Been reading about Elminster's Daughter when I get the time, and was wondering if the sages here could save me much pain and effort trying to find out for myself what the timeline is.
*SPOILERS - PLEASE DONT READ THIS IF YOU'VE NOT READ THE BOOK*
I've read a scene where Mystra transports both Elminster and the Simbul to some cliff where they chit-chat a bit before she asks their opinion of how she's doing.
If I recall correctly, at the end of Elminster in Hell, the time of troubles is passed already, and Mystra is established in her position. So this scene seemed a little strange to me. Can anyone perhaps tell me where in terms of the Trial of Cyric the mad storyline it falls, as I find it a little strange that Mystra would ask their opinion unless she were newly appointed to her position.
Don't know if any of this makes sense, but I'm a little confused to as to where we are in the official timeline, so any help would be appreciated!

Crucible: The Trial of Cyric the Mad was set in the Year of the Gauntlet, 1369.
Elminster's Daughter happens sometime after that; I don't have the book handy, and it's not on O Love's Novels Timeline. But we know it happens after Death of the Dragon, so it can't be any earlier than 1371.
Mystra 2.0 is indeed established in her position, but she's still knew to the whole deity gig. And undoubtedly, the whole Cyric thing made her rethink a lot of things. And remember, for a deity, 2 years is barely a notable span of time.
People can be blind to their own failings, and the Cyric thing made Mystra realize she was still carrying some of her mortal failings. So she decided to ask two of her Chosen, since they had something she didn't: a personal relationship with her predecessor. Mystra 2.0 wanted to know if she was fitting into the position Mystra 1.0 left, or if she still needed to work on becoming who her predecessor was. |

Fifteen years is newly appointed for a god (or a pilot-ego within a god). I imagine learning Mystra's mysteries would take Midnight centuries. |

| In fact, in one of Ed's novels (maybe it was in fact Elminster's Daughter) it was mentioned that all the current Chosen of Mystra would dust before the current Mystra (Midnight) fully learned what her job as the Goddess of Magic entailed. |
