If anything, it would have to be animated. They've had too many failures before to spend that kind of money. This is why I just can't wait for the live-action WoW movie. Legendary Pictures will do its best to put on a great live action fantasy movie.
IMHO, the Drizzt series or the Everis series would be the only ones that translate well. |
Still rockin' the Fey'ri style. |

Each of the following links will take you to some general info on each of the two D&D movies.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0190374/ (Dungeons & Dragons) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0406728/ (Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God ) [/quote]
Ah. I see. It seems that the second movie wasn't even released in germany, despite it being the better one. Damn!
Have to check if I can get my hands on an english copy. |

Yeah. It's tradition to cast british actors for old wizards. |

How about Artemis Entreri: The Making of an Assassin?
I'd love to get more info on how Artemis got where he is.
Okay...okay...maybe a movie isn't exactly the best place to do that. |
Anyone who likes to read something that's really dark and gritty and completely awesome ought to read The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks. You can check out a little taste at www.BrentWeeks.com I should probably warn you, though, that it is definitely not PG-13 :-D
He also started a new Trilogy with Black Prism, which may even surpass the Night Angel Trilogy in its awesomeness.

This is a fantasy about a fantasy, but I guess I'd most like to see a Baldur's Gate III computer game and movie, both. A BG III would pretty much have to be a prequel, a la the approach George Lucas took with Star Wars. It would be a tale about how the stage was set for the Bhaalspawn Wars. We learn of Gorion in his prime, and of course the audience is introduced to Elminster, and the Harpers. Cyric plots against Bhaal. Etc. In a movie like this, the Time of Troubles can only be viewed through lens of Bhaal's scheme, and the Harpers' efforts to thwart it. The protagonist aids Gorion, and although those familiar with the computer game know how the story must end there could still be plenty of plot twists and surprises. Filmgoers were broken in to storytelling of this type by the Lord of the Rings trilogy (i.e., we already know the outcome, and the story is told in installments). Anyway, that's what I'd enjoy seeing. |

Meh, I don't want to "learn" more about Gorion because I've already some up with a past for him. But that's just me. I wouldn't be particularly enthused by any more BG stories, either--while I loved the games and their saga, enough is enough. I'd prefer to see something totally new. |

Personally, I think that a Death of the Dragon film, adapted by someone willing to embrace the richness of the setting (rather than making it all about the big battle at the end), would make a splendid movie. A few flashbacks to some of the scenes in Cormyr: A Novel would be necessary in order to set the stage (Andar's off-stage slaying of Thatoryl, a scene with Suzara, that sort of thing), but I think the plot of that novel, more than most other Realms novels, is imminently adaptable to the large screen.
That, and I'm very interested to see which British actor (Geoffrey Rush?) they'd pick for the Old Snoop.
I agree that this would make a good film, but they would pretty much have to combine Beyond the Highroad and Death of the Dragon with flashbacks from Cormyr: A Novel. If it begins with the Death of the Dragon plot it would be very confusing because Beyond the Highroad sets the stage for the events in Death of the Dragon. |

Actually, New Line is in talks with Peter Jackson about mending the fences between them but there is no set date for a Hobbit movie yet. Also, if they do do a Hobbit movie, they very well might do a movie bridging the gap in time between the Hobbit and the LOTR.
EDIT: Now back to the topic at hand: a Realms movie! |

I've just over cheak this forum rapidly, i agreed with the idea of a cartoon movie... That would be great. Because it's shure that a "real" movie would be long to come, but ther is also a great market for cartoon. It is more and more popular... most of all probably because of the new keen interest in the anime from japan... |

I wouldn't call an interest in anime "new"... |

I just hope they won't make a Dungeons and Dragons: The Movie 3. The first was rather poor, and while I admit I had my chuckles, it was usually at how absurd the entire thing was. The second, supposedly, was a little better, but that wasn't enough for me to see it.
On a related issue, the first movie had one almost-redeeming virtue - it inspired some okay parodies. The Nodwick strips on it were hilarious. |

He's Australian. Still an interesting choice! Between his Marquis de Sade and his Leon Trotsky, he's had a history of playing oversexed old men. |

I love IMDB.com, and it's one of many sites I have plugged into IE7's search options. But it's not something I link to often enough to have an already-prepared link. |

I can't wait to comment about a potential FR movie after seeing Beowulf last night, in IMAX 3D no less!
This movie was absolutely spectacular. Grendel actually looked a bit like a D&D troll... and Angelina Jolie's 3D rendition was, well...
This was a feast for the eyes, and I hope this heralds the next generation of animated movies.
To all who have not seen it: please rush to the nearest IMAX 3D theatre who is playing this right now. I think this movie will have an actual historic significance in terms of the overall evolution of the movie industry. |

And I liked seeing Beowulf (mostly) in the nude. I'm dying to see the movie in 3D. |

I didn't mean to be impolite -- I was merely asking what role she was asking after. Trotsky in Frida, de Sade in Quills. Peter Sellers is some ill-conceived venture. |

A way to do drow in a movie and garner less ire from special interest groups or at least take wind from their sails, is to have them with a purplish hue, depicted to be under 5 feet or just over 5 feet for the tall ones, and ensure that they have distinct elven features (not the soft features of LoTRs, but the angular faces as RAS describes). They will look alienish enough, to avoid most backlash. |

Speaking of FR movies, I have always wanted to see a movie about Mirt the moneylender, played by John Goodman. Or a movie about Storm, played by Yancy Butler (if she is clean and sober).
Sweet water and light laughter!

Oh and I forgot, have a black hero within the movie, to show the contrast between drow and black people. |
