Dunno whether this would be best in this journal or "Running the Realms," so here it goes.

I was thinking about how the 3.5 Edition Player's Handbook II could come in handy with the info from Chapters 5 & 6, and this came to mind, namely in relating to Chapter 5, "Building Your Identity." It gives different backgrounds for a character, I got to thinking where some backgrounds could fit for certain classes and regions.

For instance, the Farm Hand background could work for a Druid who originates from a farming community with a nearby druid's grove (let's say one dedicated to Chauntea). For instance, said character could be the younger child of a farming family (ie: not the first in line to inherit the farm) who showcased a reverence for plant and animal life, and was taken in by the grove for druidic training when they came of age (most likely voluntarily). When their training was complete, they could act as a liaison between the druids and the farmers to help them prosper while being respectful of nature.

Anyone else try utilizing such in the Realms?

At least in terms of lore and basic skills, my groups have been doing this since the late 1980's.
EDIT: We had no formal rules in terms of inmate bonuses. We worked on a case-by-cas basis.

Another example: A Noble Scion Paladin is a member of a noble or royal family that could, for instance, be disgusted with a life in the lap of luxury and prefer to follow in the footsteps of one of their ancestors. They see high society as being necessary to do its part to help all, including those down low, and not enforce severe stratification against the lower classes. Maybe an older or younger sibling (who has levels in the Aristocrat class) would be more fitting to inherit the throne and the PC desires a life to a higher cause? Many different deities could fit the bill for said Paladin, but Siamorphe may be an interest option, given said PC's noble/royal origin.

While Siamorphe is definitely the first choice, I recommend Torm and Lathander as backup choices.
