Posted - 03 Jun 2012 : 20:17:59 Hi all, Just a quick question, i have been mining the books for lore just to make my campaign a bit more Realmsian, when i came across a paragraph about the Twilight Knight of the Night Masks, it goes as follows.
"the Twilight Night was once a paladin of Lathander who fell from grace during the Time of Troubles after being lured away from his faith by the temptation of power."
Now it may just be me but this seems like more than a hint as to a known character that has been turned to evil, however my complete lack of novel knowledge or anything relating to the time of troubles means i have no idea who this could be.
Anyone care to speculate? |

Gosh! I should expect it: an ex-paladin of Lathander turns into a twilight vampire...
One of my first Hooks in the Candlekeep Compendium was about a Lathanderite paladin and vampire hunter, who became a vampire... He wanted to go back to his home temple to be laid to rest by his colleagues. |

In my defense, I wrote up those vampires long before I'd heard of the Twilight books ... back when "twilight" was still a cool word. :-)
Oh no worries, sir! If you ask me, "Twilight" is still a cool word.
Speaking of, I'd like to run some "Night Masks of Westgate" lore past you if you'd welcome it. Would you prefer PMs or email?
Cheers

Happy to talk Westgate. I spent many hours trying to untangle it when we were designing C&D, pouring through the last Alias novel.
Posted this recently in another thread ... just in case you hadn't seen it ...

Heh. Though I'll say it loud and say it proud: "My vampires don't sparkle."

Posted - 04 Jun 2012 : 10:47:16 I'm not aware of prior references to this guy, or of him being named anywhere.
He's also on pages 53-4 of Cloak & Dagger, but that source says that only Orlakh II knows his true identity. |

Posted - 04 Jun 2012 : 07:52:58 Sorry, my own fault for being vague. I was wondering if anyone had any idea who the identity of this person was (ie which paladin he might have been during the time of troubles)? |

Posted - 04 Jun 2012 : 06:13:11 The 3rd Edition sourcebook Lords of Darkness mentions the Twilight Knight briefly on page 42, 48 and 51. He is said to be an enforcer and one of the Court of Nightmasters; that is, one of Orbakh's four dukes.
That sourcebook lists the Duke of Twilight as a vampire Paladin 9, Blackguard 5.
Hope this helps. |
