hey all,

Has anyone heard rumor/ metion of, a new version of the interactive atlas? I have been looking, and kicking myself for not purchasing this when it first came out. I have been trying to get a copy off of ebay, but as everyone knows, the price is anywhere from 150 to 200. I keep getting out bid. I think with a new, updated version put out by WOTC, it would stop the madness of people paying out the rear from 3rd parties. anyways, what are your thoughts? with my luck I will win by bidding and then a new version would come out

A new or updated one would be nice with easier to use interface (as far as printing portions of maps is concerned at least) which is the big downfall of the other. Oh and also the slow load times of some maps.

I am pretty active on the forums adn its the first time I've heard about this. There needs to be a new topic for petition signing or something :)

Wooly, your ban page didn't work, and I am curious now as to why... got a working link?

It's an older program, designed back in the mid-90's or so. It was, for the time, over-priced, and didn't stay in production long. Now everyone wants it, and you have to pay thru the nose for it. I see it pop up on eBay from time to time, but it's far from cheap.

I saw one on eBay this morn, starting at $10. Of course it'll go for a lot more than that...
Gray Richardson Posted - 17 Jul 2006 : 18:53:00
I signed. I don't own it. I so very much want them to re-release it. I certainly will buy it.

Petition hit the 500 signature mark. They're looking to get 1000.

I'm not over there... The only two forums I'm on are this one and the Heavy Metal Pro one. And since that's all about BattleTech, it's hardly appropriate to plug an FR product over there.

Not that I'm aware of. I'm not signed on over there. Too much d20.

I've posted it everywhere I can. I'm the one that brought it to the attention of roleplayingtips.com.

I've also informed everyone in my group that have internet access.

So have I. I'm even going to sig it for everywhere I go. Of the 3361 members, where are they now? Come on lurkers! If you bothered to sign up here because you love the Realms, how could you not be excited at a Google Earth-styled Atlas (assuming they improve it to that level) or even it's a simple upgrade to make it fully functional under current-day OS's?

I still use and refer to the old version with all 936 maps to date despite the globe being rendered inert. I'm ready to see the Atlas improved instead of forgotten (the irony), and to see a day where I have thousands of edition-neutral maps for it created and supplied by all the users of the Atlas the way the good people over on Dundjinni support their product.

That's my dream.

Oh no, not bitter at all . . . just because some of these guys sound like the "superfans" from Saturday Night Live, as long as you replace Ditka with Gygax . . .

Someone's not bitter or annoyed, nope, not at all.

Not to distract this thread from Uncle Wooly Stories (heh heh), but Paizo also has a thread linking the petition to the thread as well, posted by Lilith. So its spreading out to a few different related D&D sites (of course, since its on Paizo, its only a matter of time before some Greyhawk fan shows up and claims that the FR atlas used to be the Greyhawk atlas and the programmers got all of their ideas from Gary Gygax . . . sigh).

Wow, I always knew the Wizard forums were a bit querky but this is just...

I have to agree with the last part of your story though Wooly, those are the same reasons I choose to dwell in Candlekeep more often than I do the Wizards boards.

Not by me. I'll not go back there for any reason until my wrongful banning is rescinded.

If it's not too sensitive of a subject, why were you banned? You don't have to respond if you don't want to.

I was asking because I do not frequent the Wizards forums that often.

Well then Realms fans, you might just get it! Sign it, and hopefully with enough interest, Profantasy will upgrade and improve the Atlas to be more functional. So come on, sign me! Let's get a new Atlas!

I've signed and shared the link... But 350 signatures isn't a good start.

Hmm... I'd love to see a "Google Earth" version of the Forgotten Realms. What? I can dream...
