Posted - 14 Apr 2003 : 05:22:03 Wouldn't it be great if candlekeep started a forgotten realms auction site if anyone in the community (heaven forbid) would want to get rid of any of their gear. I'm getting sick of going on ebay and paying overprice or having to buy huge lots with doubles of books i already have to get the out of print realms novels. i can't get a book i need without having to buy 3 other salvatore books with it (no offense, love him to death, but have all of his books) Probably won't happen, but wouldn't it be great? |

Posted - 10 Jun 2003 : 21:27:16 Thanks, but all I've done is list 'em. I haven't bought anything. So, if people want these books, they should ask for them before someone else gets them. Especially the ones in 'Excellent' condition.
Since I have several holes in my collection, I might get some myself after I start my teaching job next month (if they're still there) and I get some extra cash. |

Posted - 10 Jun 2003 : 10:47:33 This is certainly a very good listing Bookwyrm. Especially considering the older/out-of-print, harder to find trilogies. I only wish now that I could take advantage of this, hence I no longer have any concerns in replacing my copies.
Although I hope some of the other scribes who are missing these books make the effort, and take advantage of this great offer of assistance.
Bookwyrm, this is a very generous notion on your part. You should be commended.

Posted - 10 Jun 2003 : 05:27:52 Well, it's been a while since I made that promise on the previous page, and I have to admit that I haven't gone to that particular store that I referred to. However, there's another store that's near to my college, one that is 33.3% owned by a family friend. (It's a sort of joint store -- three dealers that share the same retail space. Makes finding a book strange (you have to look in three different areas) but I like the place.)
Anyway, I stopped in there today (yesterday now) right before a class. It turned out that there was far more in the way of Forgotten Realms than I had at all expected; I didn't have time to write down all the information. That is, I got the names and conditions, but didn't have time for prices. However, except for two, they'll all be in the $3-4 range.
Table of Conditions
Horrible: Falling apart (not going to appear on any list in the future).
Bad: Not taken care of very well, even for a used book, but not falling apart.
Fair: Average for a used book.
Good: Better than average for a used book.
Excellent: Looks like it was still on a retail shelf.
Arcane Age: Netheril Trilogy Book 2: Dangerous Games (Condition: Good) Book 3: Mortal Consequences - Condition: Good)
Avatar Trilogy Book 1: Shadowdale (Copies: 2) (Condition: Good, Good/Fair) Book 3: Waterdeep (Copies: 2) (Condition: Good, Good)
Cleric Quintet Book 3: Night Masks (Condition: Good) Book 4: Fallen Fortress (Condition: Good)
Dark Elf Trilogy Book 1: Homeland (Copies: 2) (Condition: Good, Fair) Book 2: Exile (Copies: 2) (Condition: Good, Good) Book 3: Sojourn (Condition: Excellent)
Druidhome Trilogy Book 1: Prophet of Moonshae (Condition: Good) Book 3: Druid Queen (Condition: Excellent)
Empires Trilogy Book 1: Horselords (Condition: Good)
Evermeet: Island of Elves (hardback) (Condition: Good/Fair) (Cover wrinkled)
Harpers Book 4: Night Parade (Condition: Good)
Icewind Dale Trilogy Book 2: Streams of Silver (Copies: 3) (Condition: Good, Good, Fair) Book 3: The Halfling’s Gem (Copies: 2) (Condition: Fair, Fair) Icewind Dale Trilogy Box Set (Condition: Excellent)
Maztica Trilogy Book 2: Viperhand (Condition: Good)
Moonshae Trilogy Book 1: Darkwalker on Moonshae (Condition: Good) Book 2: Dark Wizards (Condition: Good) Book 3: Darkwell (Condition: Excellent)
Realms of the Arcane (Condition: Good) Realms of the Deep (Condition: Good)
The Threat from the Sea Book 2: Under Fallen Stars (Condition: Good)
If you want any of these, contact me at Pawn_of_Prophecy@hotmail.com. Identify yourself in the subject line; I get a lot of junk mail, and I don't want to delete a 'good' letter.
Books are on a first-come, first-serve basis. In the case of multiple copies, those in best conditions go first. You will pay all expenses, but (as I mentioned) there will be no middleman charge on my part. All I want is to not have to pay for it myself. I'm not looking for any sort of profit: this is all as a service to my fellow scribes. |

Posted - 03 Jun 2003 : 07:38:00 Oh, very good format, Sage. Wish I'd thought of that. I'll have to remember it . . . .

Posted - 03 Jun 2003 : 07:11:03 Thanks for the information Mournblade. As it turns out, I have a friend who lives very close to that particular bookshop. Now if I can just get him to do a 'little' favor for me .
And Mournblade, if you want to post a hyperlink, just use this format for the link in your message post - [*="addresshere"]linkwordhere[/*]. Just replace the two asterisk with the word URL in the example for the link to work.
Hope that helps,

Posted - 03 Jun 2003 : 06:23:24 New Jersey, eh? [rubs chin thoughtfully] I suppose that's within some reasonable distance. My father occasionally drives my brat I mean sister up there for swim meets. Perhaps I'll tag along next time . . . .
Edit:
I forgot to add this. Mournblade, to find out how to hyperlink, go the the FAQ page to see how. Or, just click 'quote' on any message that contains a hyperlink (such as this one) to see the code that was typed in.
I tried to do an example of this using pieces of the code, with spaces so that it wouldn't be activated, but the message went all screwy. Sorry. |

Posted - 01 Jun 2003 : 23:08:20 I will let you know soon. They just 'expanded' and now are selling books from pre 1920's. They have some ORson Welles I have been meaning to meander over. This book center is 2 floors of ALL used books, and the 1st floor is current and old. They are the ONLY bookstore able to compete with the Franchise Giants around here. This is NOT a small store, so it is 3 HUGE floors. I love it and have watched it expand since I was in 5th grade.

Posted - 01 Jun 2003 : 12:46:10 Actually Mournblade, if you do happen to create that list, I wouldn't mind seeing it. There are a few FR novels in my collection that I wouldn't mind replacing due to unfortunate damage that some of the novels have sustained over the years.

A failing shared by many-a sage here methinks,
Pubs? Never been in one.
Well, I suppose Domminic's up the road would be like that, but that's also a restaurant, and 'family-friendly.' The only reason I've ever gone there is for the pizza. Very good stuff. Haven't been there for a while.
'Course, I also seem to have this near-allergy to the smells of beer, wine, and coffee. They make me sick to my stomach. |

Posted - 31 May 2003 : 08:23:48 You know, I know a shop that has several used editions of earlier FR books. I keep thinking of this shop whenever I hear of someone talking about how rare certain books are (such as Maztica).
What I'd like to do, since others are already doing similar work, is ask if anyone has any particular 'wishlists' they might want to dangle out. I'm not doing this just for me -- it's just it would be nice if we all cooperated on this front.
I'd do the same; whenever I go someplace, I'd take along that wishlist. (PDAs make cut & paste lists so easy!) If I see the book in question, I'll ask the shopkeeper (or manager, if it's a retail store) to put it on hold. I'd then contact the particular person and ask if this edition, condition, and price are all acceptable. Cost (in my case at least) would be replacement cost. No special finder's fee; however, costs are to be handled by the buyer. I'd just be the middle man.
I'm not in this to make a profit, and I'm not going out of my way for something unless I do. (I'm not entirely altruistic here!) This would only be for the times when I'm out anyway. No special trips just to look for something, unless I'm already in the area.
So, post on here what you're looking for. I, and hopefully others as well, will take that list. Don't depend on us though -- you might find it faster. Oh, and if you don't care about the looks, say so; otherwise I, at least, will only look at what I consider reasonable condition. I hate ragged books myself, and I'll assume you do too.
Yes, I think this is a good idea. |

Posted - 18 May 2003 : 10:59:25 I dont think that theres any harm in a bit of trade of FR products on this site. Much like our local copper dragon has done in an attempt to sell a copy of Red Magic over here.
What do you all think? Just like a Classified Ads type of thing rather than an auction. A friendly trade between just us scribes of Candlekeep. |
