Posted - 09 Nov 2006 : 17:24:22 Hi,
I made up this list of OOP novels that I don't have on my bookshelves.
If some you have a bunch of them that I could buy, I would be much interested. I prefer to avoid buying them one by one because of s&h cost (I'm from Canada).
The Harpers Series The Parched Sea Red Magic The Night Parade The Ring of Winter Crypt of the Shadowking Soldiers of Ice Masquerades Curse of the Shadowmage The Veiled Dragon Finder's Bane
The Murder Series Murder in Cormyr Murder in Halruaa
The Netheril Trilogy Sword Play Dangerous Games Mortal Consequences
The Lost Empires Trilogy The Lost Library of Cormanthyr Faces of Deception Star of Cursrah The Nether Scroll
The Lost Gods Series Tymora's Luck
The Nobles Series King Pinch War in Tethyr Escape from Undermountain The Mage in the Iron Mask Council of Blades
The Threat from the Sea Trilogy Rising Tide Under Fallen Stars The Sea Devils Eye
Sembian series Black Wolf (will be reprinted)
Edit : A clean up of the list. |

My philosophy: Haunt used bookstores until the owners are so sick of seeing your face they call the police due to "Deranged Book-Seeking Harassers". My collection has improved remarkably...And I've only had to be bailed out of jail twice!
If only I knew of more used book stores around here. :-/ |

Posted - 24 Dec 2006 : 00:45:55 Hm, on my last trip to Vancouver Island I found some used books in Nanaimo, so it can't be that difficult to find at least some of the books in second hand bookshops somewhere else in Canada .
I've got some OOP books twice, so PM me if you're interested. Austria is a long way from the States or Canada, but if you're really desperate... |

Posted - 11 Dec 2006 : 16:25:06 The Double Diamond books were 9 short novels (less than 100 pages each) written by different authors with cover prices of $2.99 (except the first which was $1.99).
This storyline takes place primarily in the the Utter East and Waterdeep. The series is very paladine-heavy (Tyr, if I remember correctly) and includes one of Faerun's most notorious bad-guys as a main character.
Overall, this is a spectacular 9-ology of books with tremendous names such as Ed Greenwood and Dave Gross at the helm of this project. If you are lucky enough to read these tomes without having heard any spoilers beforehand, you're in for quite a treat.
The #1 gripe about the Double Diamond Saga is the price of these (I'm guessing quite rare) OOP novels. I purchased the set used on ebay for about $60. I am happy with the purchase and have no regrets.
These tomes offer a great (not just good, great) read, but are inconsequential to the overall "flow" of the realms. If you can afford them, I would highly recommend the DD Saga. If not, don't worry. You'll be fine without them. |

I couldn't agree more that was well done as was a few of the Harper Series. |

Posted - 08 Dec 2006 : 17:38:06 Fistandantilus Reborn is worth getting if you have the rest simply to complete the lost gods set.
It's not a bad book, though not brilliant, and I will feel much happier when i get to read Tymora's Luck knowing a little about Emillo |

The Shadow Stone is better, my problem with that one is that it does not feel like the realms to me. The book was originally intended for Birthright I believe.
It was, however it birthed the concept of the Shadow Weave.
I know that it was first written for Birghtright, it's why I ask.

Posted - 20 Nov 2006 : 17:00:04 As Wooly said tastes differ, but you asked for opinions so here's mine. Remember that this is purely subjective.
The Glass prison I have not read.
Once around the Realms is (in my opinion) a rather bad attempt at a realms comedy that isn't the least funny and tries to blend jokes from TV shows with the realms.

But as I said, different people like different things. You might like them even if I did not. |

Posted - 20 Nov 2006 : 16:59:35 enjoyed Once Around The Realms (it's a parody book with Volo and the "around the world in 80 days theme) and The Glass Prison (wish that one would have caught on (about a half-demon, drizzt-ish but enjoyable)
didn't like The Shadow Stone

Is any of those 3 books worth reading ?
Once Around The Realms The Shadow Stone The Glass Prison
Heh, it depends on who you ask. Some people hate certain books/trilogies, while others love them.
Myself, I've not read The Glass Prison. I have read Once Around The Realms and The Shadow Stone, but it's been many years since I read them. I don't recall having any particular dislike for those novels, but I didn't think they were particularly noteworthy, either.
Others are certain to disagree with me, though, especially if they've read the books more recently than I. |

This has been a fairly hideous week, and I haven't gotten to the post office, but I'll box up stuff over the weekend and get back to the European folk with a postage quote.
I have only three or four copies of the Floodgate, and those have been spoken for. In the good news department, I found another copy of Thornhold. |

Not to sound ignorant or anything, but what is Ravenloft? I haven't gotten around to haunting the bookstores for it.
It's the campaign setting that was expanded from Tracy Hickman's module. Basically it's a gothic horror D&D setting. White Wolf updated it for 3/3.5e until the license returned to WOTC and then they put out Castle Strahd a few months ago.
For more information... check out the FAQ at the "Fraternity of Shadows" wesbite for RAVENLOFT. 'Tis found here:- http://www.fraternityofshadows.com/FAQs.htm

Posted - 16 Nov 2006 : 08:25:40 I have all 20 of the Ravenloft books but I only read the first two of them. I always find myself lost within the Forgotten Realms, but there are times that I'm in the mood for something dark and I pick up a Ravenloft novel. I sure hope having reprints done is a good sign that WOTC is going to continue making more of those books. Christie Golden has written some of the best storys in the Anthologys, I sure wish they can get her to do a FR Trilogy for us. |

Posted - 15 Nov 2006 : 23:44:54 *sigh* It look terribly like I'm SOL. I have major gaps in my FR collection, and seeing as how everything's out of print, it looks kinda like it's going to stay that way. Grr. At least I got the Counselors and Kings Trilogy a while back, and it was even NEW! (New books, *WOW*, that's a strange concept to me!) |

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the author of Death of the Darklord is Laurell K. Hamilton, the mega-bestselling author of the Anita Blake (former) vampire slayer series? |

oooooooh!!! KOOOL
I'm not so sure. I was quite excited when I first heard of the rerelease of these novels as they are amazing reads. But havint seen them in the flesh, so to speak, they are quite a let down. The covers are unfitting with the novels, the text is too large and the series just gives makes me feel it's lacking of visual quality. This could have been made into something really special but it's just fallen short for me and i've decided not to get them in, sadly (as much I want to support the RL product line).
Also, there doesn't appear to have been any logical order to the release of these books. Why on earth Death of the Darklord was released and Heart of Midnight disregarded is beyond me and quite silly, IMHO. |
