Happy belated birthday! Man, you're only 30 with that many awesome novels. Makes me feel all old and unaccomplished and stuff (I'll turn 30 next year). 
As for the harrowing things, I read that post on your site, good for you (please read that in a sincere, non-patronizing jerk manner). Not an easy thing to deal with at all. The AHA is all about early bystander CPR since studies have shown compressions as soon as possible are leading to the best possible patient outcomes (before that as you probably remember, they were all about early defibrilation) but in a lot of environments you don't get a lot of people who are willing to, or capable of stepping up like you did before park rangers/medics/helicopters arrive. And even after investigators show that there's really nothing more you or anyone else there could have done, it doesn't exactly leave you with a warm, fuzzy feeling. |
