Posted - 14 Mar 2011 : 19:18:17 I've heard some great things about this book and some not so good things. I love anything with elves as main characters, but can I get some opinions on this novel so I can decide if I should but it or not? Thank you.

BTW, I was thinking about the Imaskari artifact featured in one of the books when you mentioned "Magicly powered computer/sentience/construct."
-The Half-Golem character is Dorn Graybrook, who was in the Year of the Rogue Dragons trilogy.
Regarding Stardeep, here is my review of it:

Posted - 18 Mar 2011 : 04:18:02 Actually, the BBG from Darkvision is/was Pandorym, who is an Elder Evil (and written-up in the 3e tome of the same name).
I found Darkvision interesting, although it strayed from canon somewhat (Halruaans do NOT sell their skyships!), but for the most part it was an enjoyable read. One of my favorite FR 'scenes' in regards to lore take place in that book - the connection between Imaskar and the Fey.
Not a big fan of Deep Imaskar (or its newly returned status), and REALLY not a fan of elves, but regardless I liked Darkvision, and I would suggest reading that first.
That's as close as a recommendation as I can give you, since I haven't read the actual novel you are asking about, but THAT BOOK is the REAL first appearance of a star Elf (AFAIK) - one of the main characters is one (the one that appears later in Stardeep). |

You might be thinking of Ususi's uskura, which is a magical construct that nearly every citizen of Deep Imaskar could craft or purchase. Each one acts as a general, all-purpose bearer of burdens, opener of doors, and retriever of objects.

IIRC, that was actually in Darkvision, not Stardeep. And, IMO, that is an oversimplification of the entity/object you are referring to.
If you're referring to Cynosure, the sentient construct, then it's actually from the Stardeep novel.
I was referring to that, but trying not to name it |

Its a oversimplification, no doubt about it. It was intentional, I was trying not to give away too much and not influence + or -, but I think I still hit the crux of it. |

Not trying to give away too much and wont tell you if it was good or bad, just a simple question could answer this for you.

Posted - 15 Mar 2011 : 01:46:24 I think it is definately worth the read. But as HawkinstheDM pointed out you may want to read Darkvision from the Wizards series first. And then assuming you enjoyed Darkvision and Stardeep you will want to continue to story with the Abolethic Sovereignty. |

Posted - 15 Mar 2011 : 00:07:55 Stardeep is the third book (of four) in The Dungeons series. |

Posted - 14 Mar 2011 : 20:54:30 I last read it a few years back, but I definitely enjoyed it. And it is one of the only novels (if not the only novel) featuring star elves. Also, IIRC, there is a character in Stardeep that showed up originally in Darkvision, so you might want to read that first. |
