By the way...what EXACTLY caused Blackstaff to split from the Harpers? Is it documented in any canon besides the Faerun Tome? What do the Moonstars stand for apart from what the Harpers stand for?

Not quite sure as I do this from memory now, but they are different dependent on the perspective:
  • Moonstars look upon the Harpers as rebelious cousins who are sometimes a little misguided
  • Harpers see the Moonstars more as self-important figures and need some watching.

Overall there is a certain wariness between the two.

Amen to that. I have every FR sourcebook, etc. in original format already, but I bought all of the downloads to make finding troublesome references so much easier. Gotta love 'search'.

Now hand over those D&D books Bookwyrm, and don't forget the dice too.

Back to the original question:
The Moonstars are less of a political animal then the Harpers. No to say that they don't meddle in affairs where they sometimes shouldn't.

The Harpers are more concerned about countering evil organizations and preventing them from expanding and getting footholds in regions which previously were free of the taint. They are also more of a guerilla force, fighting and sabotaging these evil and/or powerhungry organizations at every turn.

The Moonstars or - Tel'Teukiira - are striving to forge an aliance between the goodly races, most notably between the elves and humans. Their belief is that if they can build a strong aliance, they can withstand the likes of the Zhentarim, Knights of the Shield etc.

Basically Blackstaff disagreed with the course the Harpers are taking and has found a group of likeminded people, which form the Moonstars. An organization, which embodies the principles of Silverymoon (and the Silver Marches)

Best thing to do in situations where "acquiring" PDFs comes into the topic, is to take it private via email or other device. It helps the site from having to worry about anything, the moderators from dealing with it, and avoids any board debates that I've seen turn into flame wars very quickly on other boards.

Just my two coppers. No offense meant to anyone.

I agree with good Sage of Perth...the tenets of Mask have no place in these walls....

I think the PDF books or e-books are great because as the burn to cd or dvd takes up less space than the books and they are so much cheaper
especially some of them, right Bookwyrm?!!
Bookwyrm Posted - 26 Oct 2003 : 09:17:57
Well, the 2e info would be legal, since there's a newer edition out now. But, yeah -- I didn't ask.

Of course, he didn't charge a thing. Actually took a bit of a loss, since he had to pay for two CDs and postage. That means he didn't do actual piracy . . . .

Though I don't think he's too eager for obeying copyright in everything. He had a bootleg of The Two Towers when he was doing this -- in March. He wasn't going to skip buying the DVD, but . . . .
The Sage Posted - 26 Oct 2003 : 08:34:21
How exactly did he acquire...no...forget it. I don't think that I want to know....

Bookwyrm Posted - 26 Oct 2003 : 08:25:26
He sent me two CDs of D&D and FR information, including an 80MB file called frcs.pdf.
The Sage Posted - 26 Oct 2003 : 07:59:42
If I may ask, how exactly did Artalis help?.

Bookwyrm Posted - 26 Oct 2003 : 07:52:55
Almost every D&D/FR gaming book I own is in electronic format, thanks to Artalis. Saved me a lot of money, allowed me to take them everywhere I had my laptop, and let me search most of them (those that weren't direct scans). Very helpful to a guy struggling to find out what everyone on a certain forum site was talking about.
The Sage Posted - 26 Oct 2003 : 07:15:29
I think electronic downloads are good, if the sourcebook is not more than 100 pages.

I have purchased most of Monte Cook's tomes in electronic format, and are all loaded onto my laptop. It makes it easier to carry around the smaller tomes in electronic format on my laptop leaving me with more 'arm-space' to carry a few larger ones, than a number of small tomes, and the larger ones as well.

Yes, you work for Amazon don't you.Admit it and live!
I didn't mean to imply that you were pushing anything so you misunderstood me.I wanted your opinion of the downloads at sv games and yes,I have had good experiences with them.A download manger is almost a must have for these and the faster the connection the better.
I will leave a link to one download manager but there are many---> http://www.gozilla.com/

Actually, I wasn't pushing him towards an Amazon purchase as much as using them as a cheap source of information. As for SV Games, your experiences with them must be a tad different than many others that I have heard. Needless to say, I'm glad I purchased the book when it first came out in its print edition.

It's a supplement from 2nd Edition that, like soon to be every other book from 2nd edition, got cut and pasted a great deal into a 3rd edition product, in this case Lords of Darkness, and then was called new material.

Follow the link below to find out more information about the item. It's very well done and a great read

Lord Rad Posted - 23 Oct 2003 : 17:18:53
Well the closest I ever got to finding out about the Harper problems is in the Thornhold novel.....although dont expect much, it is very played down and not that clear at all.
