Ok, you're trapped on a deserted island and you're given the choice to bring ONE Forgotten Realms novel. Obviously it would probably be your favorite for whatever reason, which one would it be and why?
I might get crap on here it sounds, but it has to be Homeland. It was the first FR book I purchased and it really sucked me in. It started the addiction. The association with the book made me realize the appreciation for fantasy literature that I had forgotten and really helped me ease through stressful times.

2nd book of the Erevis Cale Trilogy. I am currently re-reading everyhing about Cale and cannot get enough of it!  |

The Crystal Shard, because it was my window into a whole new world back then in 1988, and it still holds a hell of a lot of nostalgic value for me even now.
I think Homeland was a better story, but by the time I finally got around to reading that (2005), I had already begun approaching the books like research projects, and reading them just doesn't impact me as emotionally as it used to, anymore. (Though some may say it's the choice of author, rather than reading in general.)
Without being able to pinpoint any newer book that makes me go "wow-wee", I'd go the nostalgic route and stick with the Shard. |

If we're thinking in terms of survival, then I would pick a book with lots of pages, preferably soft and absorbent. 
For reading, though, I would go with Elfshadow. I like Cunningham's FR books the best.

I'd take anything by Kemp - probably Shadowrealm as I haven't gotten to read that one yet.
As for some of the other speculations, it was never stated that you couldn't bring other books or survival tools, just that you only got ONE FR novel. I'd have to say that using that loophole, I'd be really well-equipped for my stay . |

That is a tough question. I would probably have to go with Evermeet because I am an elf nut and that book has a dragon's horde of lore. However, in some ways I like the old anthologies even better. I own five of the six TSR Realms of... books, but picking which one is my favorite is pretty much impossible. |

Using that logic, Red Walker, you may want to consider the Cleric Quintet Collector's Edition!
Personally, I'd settle for any of Niles' Maztica trilogy. I've often thought they should be used for personal hygiene, and I could do so on that island without a cringe of conscience.  And, just maybe, when delirious from loneliness or water deprivation, they'd turn into a good read!?!? 
Otherwise I'm with the Evermeet-or-Cormyr voters. |

I would have to go with Homeland. It's a great story that deals with internal struggles and the strenth to overcome obstacles. When ever I try to get someone interrested in reading Forgotten Realms. I give them this novel. It's the best. |

I would have to say Shadow's Witness, Paul Kemp's depiction of a guy with a dark past who worships an evil god and trying to do the right thing was just captivating. I look forward to the publication of Shadowrealm so I can finally read the most recent Ervis Cale trilogy (I want to be able to read each book right after the other, with no breaks in between). |

If I was stranded on an island, I'd want the Junior Woodchucks Guidebook. That book contained just about everyone someone would need to know, so it would easily cover surviving and getting off of a deserted island. |

Oh man that would be tough, but I would have to bring "The Legacy" because it was the first realms novel I read (hell it was the first novel I read, not counting anything school related)....it just captivated me so much that I can still picture many scenes in my head that it would feel right to be the one to bring. |
