1) There was an Elminster's guide to in dragon with a cross-section of the Halfway Inn. Does anyone know what issue that was?
2) Waaay back, Dragon published these D&D character sheets that had hand drawn pictures as the border of the CS. Anyone remember what issue that was? |

http://www.aeolia.net/dragondex/articles-author.html offers the list which includes 5 "Elminster's Notebook" the resource may not be prefect, it does appear to cover much, one way or another.

Pretty cool, but that doesn't even list the existing Elminster's Guides... atleast I don't see any of them listed. |

Well NeverWinter Night does appear the have "The Halfway Inn" in at least one of its shards.
Also _Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast_ should contain some information. Though if not in inventory already is no longer a free download.
