Not to be critical or anything, especially since I never had the fortune of playing or owning the original adventure.

But the Blackrazor seems a bit watered down from the storied I heard about it.

Anyone able to comment on this?

When we played through it Wave the trident was destroyed by the party mage when he cast lightning bolt at the Giant crab.

Black Razor was claimed by the partys bard (Yes he was a first edition Bard)

I believe we returned Whelm as it was only useful to Dwarves and we didnt have one in the party

No clue of how the Original was supposed to run, but with the 3E remake, the party is sent to recover 1 of the 3 weapons, and allowed to keep the other 2.

Thanks, no wonder why the group I was with, said they had it encased in a lead block hidden away.

You forgot the other down side

If Black razor ever strikes an undead then it drains the life energy of the WIELDER as Undead dont have souls
George Krashos Posted - 09 Dec 2005 : 05:01:52
Yeah, it took any souls that came its way - good or evil: it was just hungry, is all.

And the sword was Chaotic neutral?!?
Brother Ezra Posted - 09 Dec 2005 : 04:29:40
"Blackrazor, a +3 chaotic neutral sword, intelligence 17, Ego 16. Purpose: To suck souls. It is a black sword that shines like a piece of night sky filled with stars, and it is sheathed in a black scabbard decorated with pieces of cut obsidian. On a killing stroke, Blackrazor temporarily adds the number of levels of the dead foe to its bearer’s levels (in terms of fighting ability). The bearer also temporarily gains the full hit points of the victim. All subsequent damage to the sword’s wielder is removed from the added hit points first. The extra levels and hit points last a number of turns equal to the number of levels received. The souls of all entities killed by Blackrazor are sucked out and devoured; those killed by the black sword cannot be raised.

For every three days the sword remains “unfed” its ego increases by one point, until it can compel its bearer to kill a human or humanoid being. Upon feeding, its ego returns to 16."

From the stories that I was told of it from 1st Edition, it was a weapon that any and all characters should fear facing.

Anyone have the original stats for Blackrazor?

I did not check it yet, but isn't supposed to be a "Legacy Weapon" that improves with the character (through rituals, etc.)?

So it might be weak when they find it, but gets better as time passes and the player goes through the various steps to unleash its powers...
