Posted - 30 Oct 2005 : 23:20:03 Let me try again.
An Artifact does not count against NPC wealth, in many cases it is Inteligent and should be considered an NPC (if not Inteligent the iten is a hazzard). Any NPC that "owns" an artifact well need all of their wealth to help protect it from those that seek to aquire it.
As per the SRD (or at least the bookmarked version I most often use) they have no market value to even be used to count against NPC wealth. |

Thanks Arivia. I don't actually have the ELH, just the SRD download. 627k? That's not much! But I'll see what I can do.
As to who this is for ... that reminds me, I have to ping Ed. Thanks again.

Yep.
One note: There's a specific exception listed for epic spellcasting NPCs-it says feel free to give them whatever kinds of epic spells you want. If your character has Epic Spellcasting, feel free to do so, mostly because they're not lootable, no matter what they cost.
And will you at least tell me when whatever all this is for comes to fruition? Pllllllllease? I've been waiting oh so patiently. |

I hear you re giving an NPC what they need, but in the context of an 'official' NPC, I've got to stick with the rules. Last thing - the DM's Guide gives on p.127 (Table 4-23) and look at the value of NPC gear up to 20th level. Is there an Epic version of this table? How much is the value of the gear for a level 31 character?

Hey, now, you are assuming as such - it has no 31st level category, but I guess I agree. :)

I can't believe you made me look this up at 11:21pm... but I do not see an Epic version of this table anywhere. I just flipped through it and it seems mainly focused on PCs.

Posted - 30 Oct 2005 : 06:22:00 Well, its not like I am going to misuse the stuff. I am not a mean GM. :)
I also give my players stuff they want if they can justify it, its not totally our of place inthe game, and of course if they misuse it I make them pay...muhahahahaha!

That's right, I forgot about that list. |

Thanks guys. And just one other thing: epic feats. If I have a high-level wizard (say level 26), on my calculation they get 6 wizard bonus feats. Two of those feats happen when they are level 20+ (i.e Epic characters). Can these 'bonus' feats be epic metamagic feats or are they restricted to the list given in the PH for level 1-20 wizards?
-- George Krashos
Those last 2 can be Epic feats, but they must still follow the same restriction, i.e. Craft feat, Meta-Magic feat, etc.

You can only get epic feats with bonus feats from epic classes-that is, only the last two feat selections can be epic feats. The first four have to be off that list. |

Posted - 29 Oct 2005 : 00:28:25 quote: Artifacts are extremely powerful. Rather than merely another form of magic equipment, they are the sorts of legendary relics that whole campaigns can be based on. Each could be the center of a whole set of adventures—a quest to recover it, a fight against a opponent wielding it, a mission to cause its destruction, and so on.
No table has been included to randomly generate specific artifacts, since these items should only enter a campaign through deliberate choice on your part.
To include an artifact I would tend to make it part of the storyline (under current rules) rather then NPC equipment item. They can be costed out I am sure, following the craft magic rules, to come up with a market value. |
Arivia |
Posted - 29 Oct 2005 : 00:26:27 No, they don't.
Don't worry about it-the trouble that an artifact brings is enough, apparently.
If it's something that could be expressed in epic magic item rules and you want desperately to do it, you could work the artifact out that way and then count it against the NPC's gp total that way. |
