"BTW, listened to the last podcast about 4E. And how the 4E rules will fit pretty well with the new Star Wars rules, so, you know, you could mix the two without a lot of changes. Fabulous. I fully expect this new Realms to need a few ambidextrous, shadow-magic-using, bladesinging, lightsaber-wielding dragonmark drow Sith anyway."

Posted - 04 Feb 2008 : 19:20:02 I do see an argument for the Realms being made more "Eberron-like" though. In my view, though there are some startling comparisons (Mournlands -> Plaguelands) between the "new" Realms and Eberron, the biggest thing I see that they are doing to the "new" Realms to make it like Eberron is that the motto for Eberron was "if it is in D&D, than it is in Eberron" (or something similar). Now, for 4e, WotC is saying that "if it is in D&D 4e, than it is in the Realms." Before, the Realms was its own entity, and it took what it wanted and left what it didn't want (and Realms DMs did the same) from the D&D Core. Now, with 4e, they are trying to shove everything that is in the 4e Core into the 4e Realms. |

(and by the way, I see nothing wrong with Eberron, I just don't see why the FR needs to be made more similar to that setting).
Great point, Rino! That's 100% my opinion too. |

And you know why they haven't talked Eberron? Because they're not going to do Eberron 4E. Why? Because like the Realms, there are too many novels (not as many as the Realms) and too many supplements (not as many as the Realms) to tell new developers and authors it's THEIR JOB to read before writing updated books.
Well, there is an important difference between the settings--Eberron doesn't have a "metaplot" the way the FR does, and the Eberron novels aren't considered "canon" (and therefore, they don't change the setting). |

makes perfect sense to me
hey wooly shall we pitch this to Wizards saying we will write a cross-genre adventure showing how much fun you can have when everything is the same and you don't have to worry about history and lore and how things should be......
My friend runs star wars - I am throwing this idea his way, am sure he will like Manshoon running around his universe
cheers

Posted - 01 Feb 2008 : 21:38:34 They are totally turning the Realms into Eberron lite. There are too many ideas taken directly from Eberron and put into the Realms.

FR 3E offerings have all been lackluster and we didn't even get all the major gaming areas covered. Plenty of Eberron books got published though because they could make stuff up as they went along.. like 4E Realms now.
I guarantee you that in 2009 they'll run another campaign contest because it's easier to make up a new setting then to update an old one. Otherwise they would have brought back any of the other popular AD&D settings themselves instead of licensing out Dragonlance and Ravenloft. |

Posted - 01 Feb 2008 : 17:37:07 The funny thing is that one point I did a completely apocryphal campaign with the Revised Star Wars d20 and 3.x Realms where the SW characters got sucked through a force/magic rift into the Realms. It only lasted a couple of sessions though. As a plot point, I was going to have one of the Jedi character's lightsaber stop working so they would have to travel to the island of Lantan. |

Posted - 01 Feb 2008 : 17:14:08 I kind of agree with this guy's suspicion that the Realms seem to be turning into "Eberron Lite", but I wouldn't go too far with that idea because I wouldn't want to be excoriated by Ebberon loremasters saying "Oh no, it's not similar AT ALL!" (and by the way, I see nothing wrong with Eberron, I just don't see why the FR needs to be made more similar to that setting).
