After much disruption, and delay, the Sage's copy of the Player's Guide to Faerun finally arrived late yesterday. Looking over the package, I sat wondering for several moments about whether or not I should open it.
You see, I have to make a choice between two equally unfavorable options. Either I leave the package unopened, meaning my access to current Realmslore is slightly delayed (the Sage isn't due home for at least a few more days yet). Or, I open the package now, and not inform the Sage since it's delivery was meant to be a surprise for when he returns. It's also the reason I've haven't told him via what you all now call ethereal-mail.
So, what choice do I make . . .?. I'm hoping someone can help me with this, or at least provide me with a justifiable reason to follow which direction I finally choose.
 - this emoticon is so ill equipped to adequately illustrate my level of confusion on this issue . . .

Well, I've opened the package . . . Afterall, who can argue with the wise Alaundo . . .
I'm sure I've have some opinions on the content given sufficient time to read through it.
Thank you all, for your suggestions. Let's just hope the Sage's wrath is easier to bear, than the wise Alaundo's  .

My suggestion:
1. Open it, read it, try not to be dissapointed.
2. Wrap it up nicely as if it were a gift. Hide this.
3. Take the original box/packaging it came in and fill this with broken glass. Repackage it.
4. Present the original box/package and explain that you are afraid it was damaged, while shaking it.
5. Try not to laugh.
6. Before he gets too upset, present him with the gift-wrapped version.

Well, I guess if Alaundo considers it your duty, Lady Kazandra, I suppose you've no choice but to force yourself to open it and drink in the contents.
Hmm . . . a scroll from Alaundo that doesn't start with "Well Met" . . . how unusual. |

As to your dilemma, Lady Kazandra....i'm sure The Sage would be more than happy that you opened the tome in his absence and shared your thoughts and knowledge with us all herein. Chop chop, no time to waste.

Don't just shove it back in the delivery box and tape it up. Wrap it up special yourself with present paper or even funny-paper or whatever if your going for a laugh  Still I think it would mean more that way so he would know that you understand how special it is to him you know? I'm glad you liked my idea :)
PS did you sign up at the Secrets of the Marches Yahoo Groups site yet? Just checking I can't wait to see what kind of character you come up with  |

Actually Bookwyrm, I'd already considered the possibility of what you just said, since it could be a while . . .
I think I like Wood Elf's suggestion though, if nothing else, it will provide us both with a laugh .
I'm stumped Sirius . . . 
The only reference I could find was to a band called Abe and the Vigodas. What's the meaning behind your third rule?.

I live by three simple rules:
1. There is no whining in Cataloging.
2. All Realms material even if owned by someone else is fare game to be examined at my discretion.
3. And keep the Vigodas caged.
No way anyone here will get the last rule, but the second one applies to your dilemma Lady Kazandra. |

I have a solution for you Lady Kazandra! First let me say that Sage seems the type of guy who would really love that you are interested in the same things that he is (ex Forgotten Realms ) So I think he would be fine with you opening the package and using it. But here is my idea! After reading throug it wrap it up yourself special for him for when he gets back home.
A. He understands you wanting to open it and peruse the knowledge within
B. He will still be surprised and pleased that you took the time and effort to re-wrap it especially for him to open it anew

I know my brother gets irritated if people read stuff meant for him before it's given. Yet I don't care myself. And I don't know how the Sage would care.
In fact, I think you're probably the most qualified person to answer your own question. Comforting, eh? |
