Posted - 21 Feb 2007 : 08:04:22 In the boxed set "Ruins of zhentil keep" there was an adventure of a small village called snowmantle. The villagers were oppressed by the Zhents and they worked as slaves there. So I would take this town as my option 'cause NOBODY is free there.
In the end of this adventure (if the players are succesful) it's freed from the oppression of the Zhents, but a great cost. |

Posted - 21 Feb 2007 : 02:41:37 a vote for Thay here. |

Posted - 21 Feb 2007 : 02:37:18 I would go with Thay also |

Posted - 20 Feb 2007 : 23:46:17 You could add Hilsfar if you're not Human... |

Posted - 20 Feb 2007 : 23:30:54 Calimshan is certainly a very oppressive city for ordinary working people, and if you decide to leave even the very environment will work against you. |

Posted - 20 Feb 2007 : 23:13:07 I guess it would be more interesting to ask which non-Underdark cities are the most repressive. |

Posted - 20 Feb 2007 : 23:12:15 Illithid and Aboleth cities would indeed "win" hands down. I didn't even think of that. |

Posted - 20 Feb 2007 : 23:11:50 Okay without a doubt Thay... |

Posted - 20 Feb 2007 : 23:04:48 Then again, there are Aboleth cites (which we know less about) where they dominate your mind AND begin transforming you into an alien abomination as well . . .
I'm thinking most aberration cities would be off the vacation list . . . |

Posted - 20 Feb 2007 : 22:57:29 I agree that Illithid cities are on an entirely different level as far as repressiveness goes. Mind Flayers just creep me out in general, evil and nasty things they are. |

Actually, Oryndoll or other Illithid cities would probably have the least freedom. Thay and Menzo can't compete with a place that enslaves mentally as well as physically. Even the Illithids themselves are monitored and controled somewhat by thier Elder Brains.
Great point--I don't think it gets much more repressive than having your mind dominated. |

Posted - 20 Feb 2007 : 22:16:19 While the nation of Cromyr is not the most repressive, I don't percieve the residents as very free, they are monitored quite a lot, at least that's the impression I got when I read Volo's Guide to that place |

Posted - 20 Feb 2007 : 19:41:40 I'd vote for Thay, where you never hardly see a non-human who isn't in chains. But Menzo and the other Lolth cities are probably in the running. Now that I think about it, there are a lot of fairly repressive nations/cities in the Realms. |

Posted - 20 Feb 2007 : 18:33:58 Human nation, or any nation, period?
Yes, Thay is the obvious choice...but for all I know somewhere out there is an even more repressive place to live. |
| nbnmare |
Posted - 20 Feb 2007 : 18:18:26 Probably Menzoberranzen, or indeed any other Lolth-ruled drow city.
In such a city, you could legally be killed on the street just because someone of higher rank didn't like you. In Thay, you couldn't legally be killed for such a reason... though you could be enslaved. |

Posted - 20 Feb 2007 : 17:58:35 i'll go on a limb and say Khaerbaal in Halruaa ... the city where they train Jordain Viziers |

Posted - 20 Feb 2007 : 17:45:39 Well, Thay would be an obvious choice; I have little knowledge of the lands of Mulhorand and Unther though. |

Posted - 20 Feb 2007 : 17:19:09 for actual nation, i'd say probably Thay.
