Their patron deity is Sardior, right? I've seen that in Candlekeep Compendium IV is different, though I like this Kaliyet even more than Sardior (especially the part about Sossal, and how she retreated to the far north, though the Ruin doesn't mention anything about it)
Note: I have Draconomicon, DoF and I've seen the Legend of Sardior article at WotC (Scalykind domain, the only lead). I don't think I've missed anything about this subject
So what are your thoughts about this, who would you prefer

They are not religious as other races, but they must pay some respect, cause there's the wall of the faithless ... IMHO |

In my Compendium article about the plane of Dragon Eyrie in volume IV, the narrator sees the gem-faceted towers of Sardior's Ruby Castle float by through the night sky as he scales the Middle Crags. |

Maruluthu Mistrivvin is referring my article, Reign of Dragons. The following is completely non-canon of course. Use in your campaign if you wish...
It is said that in the Days of Thunder Kaliyet, third daughter of Yaldaboath, left Merrouroboros to travel the Inner Planes for a time. There she met and befriended Sardior the Ruby Dragon, a deity unknown on Toril at the time. Sardior took Kaliyet as his consort and they soon produced many hatchlings. After a time Kaliyet grew restless and desired to return to her homeland. Without Sardior’s knowledge, she fled the Ruby Dragon’s domain with a score of her young, and returned to Toril. She soon established a Realm in the icy north in the region now known as Sossal. Today, many gem dragon’s on Toril still revere Sardior as father of their race but they will always hold an honored place for their birth mother Kaliyet. |

Keep in mind that though many scribes for the Compendium do cleave as tightly as possible to canon, not everyone does. Some may extrapolate in directions different that others, or some may have missed something. And, since the Compendium is a fan-based publication, it is not official (though I'd love to see parts of it become official!  ).
I honestly don't recall the reference in question. And, to be quite honest, I don't know that it's ever been defined who the gem dragons of the Realms venerate. This could simply be one of those hazy gray areas where the situation is defined outside the Realms, but things in the Realms may or may not be the same. |

During the rage, gem dragons - with the exception of Iltharagh (and possibly any other gem dracoliches) - fled the material plane. They may come back, but we'll have to wait and see. |
