Originally, I felt like FR was getting the short end of the stick in '07, but the more I look at it the more pleased I am becoming.

3 super adventures
1 Expedition to Undermountain (with Ed an Eric on the Billing)

It looks like they are putting some action back into FR. I know that not all of us are fans of manufactured modules, but they seem to also be putting a bit of Realmslore into these. The Scouring of the Shadowdale at least seems to have some in-depth dales-related lore.

Also, modules are one of the best ways to get new players into an old setting.

I'm waiting for my eyes and hands to peruse the material, but i'm still optimistic.. hell, it IS Forgotten Realms after all..

Hammer of Moradin is right...Maps are great, they can oft times make or break an adventure.
hammer of Moradin Posted - 14 Dec 2006 : 17:12:51
It can even be a decent adventure and I will by some of them if they have some good MAPS! Designers please take note.

Its good to see FR geting some love from WotC
Alisttair Posted - 13 Dec 2006 : 15:50:13
Although my budget has gone down significantly since buying some land, I look forward to breaking it by buying any and all FR products ;)

-That three slots are being allocated to an adventure is the reason why I believe '07 is going to be a lean year for us...

OK, thanks for the replies. At least it isn't just some meaningless marketing term.

Well, actually it sorta-kinda is, but no big deal.

A Super adventure has over 100 pages (CoSQ, Red hand of Doom etc) regular module have less typically 32, 64 or 96 pages (Sons of Gruumsh etc)

I think in this case, super-adventure means a multi-volume adventure.

That pretty much sums up my feelings. Adventures *do* interest me, but I have plenty of ideas and things on the go as it is. I want more regional sourcebooks ideally.

Patience is the best to go by, IMO!

...all the more reason to be exited about adventures that seem disconnected to novels, and with author like Baker and Cordell who knows how to write good adventures.
Faraer Posted - 27 Nov 2006 : 20:01:40
I love scenarios, and the Realms has never been particularly well dealt with them, compared to Oerth, Athas, Krynn, Planescape or Ravenloft. It could really have done with a complex campaign adventure in the 1990s that really showed off its depth and power groups. As a game world, major events are better treated in adventures than novels, and better still left up to the DM. Though Wizards doesn't consider the Realms primarily a game world, in that the novel line is the more profitable concern.
Snotlord Posted - 27 Nov 2006 : 19:50:03
After a long series of of hit-and-miss sourcebooks, I'm excited about more adventures.

As for the why-more-trouble-in-Shadowdale drama I fail to see the big deal, FR is a game world, not a anthropology study.

"putting the action back in FR"

By this I mean printing some meaty modules for us. As a DM, I'm a big module fan and hate converting vanilla modules to be FR. FR specific modules have so much flavor invested in them! 3E-3.5 has produced very few modules for FR, and I like the new direction that they are taking. They are converting Realmslore from Data into Information by placing it in a relevant context.

Just my opinion.

Let's wait and see...
Faraer Posted - 27 Nov 2006 : 17:58:53
A whole year's product slots is a big outlay, and without seeing this trio, who can say if it'll be the best use of them, in any sense? Or if one or two would have been enough.

I can't see how new players would be drawn by high-level scenarios that presuppose investment in the Realms for their hook. (Like I said, why not give us a Dales sourcebook, then blow it up?)

I'm not concerned in the long term, because this is part of the experimenting with different formats that Rich Baker mentioned was going on.

What do you mean by 'putting some action back into FR'? In what sense was there ever a lack?
Besshalar Posted - 27 Nov 2006 : 17:48:45
Wait and see ... After all it's no good to start cooking the rothe if you haven't killed it yet.
Chosen of Moradin Posted - 27 Nov 2006 : 17:44:31
Even being a Realms addicted, I will expect to see the tomes, first.
Romaal Posted - 27 Nov 2006 : 17:27:58
I'll keep my judgement until they're published.
Zimme Posted - 27 Nov 2006 : 16:59:54
They sound good but i must know more before I can judge them for myself
Faramicos Posted - 27 Nov 2006 : 16:52:39
Sounds good, but i will limit my excitement and wait in silence for the products... Less of a dissapointment then, if they strike out. Which i doubt they will, but anyways.
Uzzy Posted - 27 Nov 2006 : 16:40:47
Looking forward to the new year as always. The Modules look good. Expedition to Undermountain looks great.
WalkerNinja Posted - 27 Nov 2006 : 16:39:17
I can't imagine who you mean. I know of a certain esteemed DM that frequently rewards patience...
dwarvenranger Posted - 27 Nov 2006 : 16:35:22
Looking forward to them, just like I'm looking forward to a certain DM who shall remain anoymous getting his players their xp.
