Hi folks,
I'm working on a new thought for my campaign and can't quite remember the status of Nesme following the most recent Drizzt trilogy. Warning possible spoilers below.
Any help? My recollection is that the trolls overran and pretty much leveled the city and the survivors fled through tunnels, becoming a Silver Marches diaspora, but I can't recall if some of the survivors went back to the city to rebuild and don't have my books with me. Any details (even names) would be very much appreciated. Thanks folks.

The people of Nesme are such pains? Why? They are just people like from any other town. Don't condemn them all just because Galen Firth left a bad impression.

1371, according to RAS's tale in Realms of the Elves which is a short tale with Drizzt and Inno where they find the settlement Obould is creating. This tale takes place only a bit after the events of the trilogy.
Silver Marches supports the 1371 DR date also.

I thought that read somewhere that Nesme was on the verge of destruction, from the giants that have moved into the northern evermoors. |

absolutly, Nesme, has always been one of my favorite FR towns. I do think that there will be even more tension with the local Dwarven populations though. Most likely spurred on by whoever assumes the next level of leadership there. That being said, yes it is a home, a place of security, and I feel that the folk of Nesme will return more determined than ever, to carve out an existance there. |

It is under my impression that Nesme is being turned into a temporary(maybe) military garrison by the military of the Silver Marches, as it was mentioned by Lady Alustriel that there were wizards patrolling the walls of Nesme against possible troll return and i think there might be possible remaking of Nesme from a town to a garrison and town at the same time. It can be fairly certain that most refugees would return there if they can stomach the thought of staying in a place where they had experienced a lot of trauma and everyday braving the risk of a possible assault/siege.
I say even if the residents return, there might be some mixed feelings towards the local dwarves, an obvious combination of grudging gratitude and resentment. Gratitude for the dwarves sacrifice to help the fleeing refugees when the trolls came and resentment for sending aid at such a slow pace, and the surviving Captain of the Nesme Riders, Galen Firth, might use this as an good way to further sympathy for Nesme and her people, build up tension against the dwarves for petty reasons and even consolidate his power and further his personal ambitions. Galen Firth maybe a hero to the Nesme people for today but maybe a devious foe the next day. |

I'm just an optimist/idealist, but I'd like to think that eventually, the people of Nesme would want to rebuild the town if possible. It was afterall their home. |

it is fairly trashed, after the last Drizzt novel. I would imagine any adventure plot, that was built around reconstruction or re-establishing a community, would be interesting. Hard feelings with the local dwarven communities vs. the residents of nesme would not be out of order. So a strong leader type with the ability to smooth out the polictical turmoil would be important/ or maybe as an adventure plot, have a leader who is the exact opposite, which could result in the adventurers getting into the middle. overall, I would say, the possibilities are about endless.
