That would appear to connect somewhat, with the description of Nhyris on pg. 87 of the Skullport accessory. It clear notes Nhyris as a "pureblood yuan-ti lich," though, it also notes that the corruptive magic of the Crown of Horns was responsible for transforming Nhyris into a "sort of lich." It also suggests that Nhyris's present undead state is *unique* -- both references could support the note in SK about Nhyris never fully becoming a lich. The entry in Skullport also notes Nhyris possesses the majority of the abilities that a lich can access - though not all of them.
Looking at this, one could suggest that Nhyris was not a "full lich" when he lost the artifact and thus, was not restricted to the "rule" about being destroyed when the Crown is removed from the lich's possession. Not being a full lich, may have given Nhyris a way around such a "rule."

Calrond, you bring up a good point, and yet a conundrum . . . according to Magic of Faerun if the Crown advances someone to lichdom and then teleports away, the lich is destroyed when the crown leaves. Which means somehow Nyhris didn't get destroyed when it teleported away, violating that particular "rule" . . .
since the crown is kind of Myrkul's avatar, wouldn't the crown only destroy the lich when Myrkul willed it?
maybe he saw that Nyhris still had value in the future so it spared him... |

Posted - 25 Sep 2006 : 18:33:40 I've heard that if the Crown has made someone into a lich, and then teleports away, choosing another host, that lich is destroyed immediately. Is that canon Realmslore or just someone's pet theory? |

Posted - 24 Sep 2006 : 16:23:23 Nhyris did become a lich. About losing power and not admitting it, I would think an event in which he loses the crown would involve other characters and that would be hard to cover up. I could be wrong. Afterall, Golem did lose The Ring, which was his precious, while he was alone in the tunnels. (then again maybe I'm right because didnt the goblins cause him to drop it?

Posted - 24 Sep 2006 : 12:06:20 Well, the Crown isn't lost--Myrkul makes sure he/it is worn, so he willfully abandoned Nhyris to choose another host, IIRC.
As to the yuan-ti's status, I can't recall if he wore the crown long enough that he's undead or not, but he's probably got some power or influence...especially if he could have a copy of the crown made to look as if he's still got it. Then, just the threat of using it might get him what he wants....at least where he's known or has been when he bore the true Crown.
Just a thought, as those in power rarely like to admit when they've lost their power and go on as long as they can without admitting weaknesses.....

Posted - 23 Sep 2006 : 16:47:30 the only way i could really see him losing it in a deep crevice in the underdark. if, for example, he is ambushed and the crown physically is knocked off of his head then the crown could be lost ina deep crevice. not specifically remembering where the ambush occured and hounded by agents of his uncle he could not have had time to really go and do a thorough search for it for a period of time. in that time some other beign could have gotten it or the crevice in which it fell could end in a portal to the shadow plane or elemental plane of earth and from those locations only ao knows where it is. |

He had it in his possesion, he doesn't any longer. However, I don't think it's been said where he went. |
