Try as I might, I can't seem to locate any info about taxes in Cormyr, specifically Suzail. Can anyone help or point me to a source?

I am trying to figure out if Suzail has any kind of a sales tax, how much it might be, and how it is collected. Specifically with regards to magic items, and adventuring supplies, such as spellbooks and inks, etc.

Also property taxes. What are the rates like, and how often are they collected? And are churches exempt?

As well, don't forget Ed's "The Rise and Fall of the Window Tax" in his REALMSLORE articles...

What a very silly tax. I'd be in an uproar too if I had lived on Cormyr at the time.

that's right Sage. I was trying to remember where I had seemn lore on this subject for Cormyr. It was from these arcticles, now saved safely on my computer. I also remember something about that most merchants do not fuss all that much about the tax rates and paying them, as they seem fairly reasonable. Do any of my fellow scribes and sages remember where this bit may have come from.

TSR clearly had tax systems, both in 1st Edition (which taxation appears to include taxing every thing that moved and everything in the realm) and BD&D (which used a flat pecentage of taxation, in large part tax in service and goods).

As far as Realms taxation, I do suspect that there were at least some of the taxes set out in prior edition. Realms may not have in source book any of the original TSR taxation, however they clearly needs to be a tax system in place. This of course like other Realms details it comes down to it depends of the culture. Elves value service at times that humans would consider of no use. The composing a song in human community would not be considered a payment of taxes, however Elves would consider such an effort more worthty then a coin payment.

I would need to search for any taxes that Realms have imposed.

Taxes one should understand include toll roads, entry to gates, owning a building, head tax (on people and animals). Each culture will develpe their own tax system, some could very well have only personal service to serve as taxes.

Think you might end up asking Ed about this.... it's not something TSR ever really detailed and if they aren't in Power of Faerun, then I can't really think of another sourcebook where the info might be located.
