I seem to have a problem, I'm starting to forget stuff about the FR books that I have read. Names, what it was about etc. I have every Forgotten Realms novel, escept a few of the newer ones. I have read about 60 of them, and the very first ones that I have read, I have forgotten most of everything, this would not sound so bad if I was reading them since 1987, but I just got into FR novels 4 years ago.
I would like to read all of them, but if I read all 200 or more of them, I think I would forget all previous ones.
Has anyone had this problem? Maybe my brain is bad... I'll put in for a transplant  |

I still have a problem. But I guess if it was in a book I paged through a lot, that would be different. Still, that's a lot of books you have, you know! And all on the same general subject. I still think it's better than I could do. |

Modules aren't like books. As a DM, i'm used to pick some info on every books around me. Furthermore, reading the title i can now remember what i deals about. It's more habitude than memory |

And if you read the modules too, it'll become hard (IMO impossible) to remember everything  . Or you are a droid or Oghma.
Know i remember where to find the info. For example when Rad asked where he could find a picture of Vangy, i remembered that i saw him in the Heroes' Lorebook, but i didn't remember his caracteristics, the details of his history, ... |

I understand now why I am forgetting so much, I counted the number of Forgotten Realms books that I have read... I have read 69 of them. I was thinking that I have only read about 40... ohh well.

I guess having your essence coalesce into a single entity is a better idea than scattering it amongst 1,000s and 1,000s of progeny. |

Iyatchu Xvim (sp?) had the portfolio of Hatred and Tyranny. He was the son of Bane, and something else: Bane arranged things eons ago so that if he ever "died" his scattered essence could eventually coelesce and reform within the body of his son (the FRCS describes Xvim as a "sentient coccoon"). |

Cyric's portfolio before Bane's resurection: Murder, Strife, Lies, Intrigue, Deception, Illusion
Bane's portfolio after his resurection: Strife, Hatred, Tyranny, Fear

I belive Bane took back from Cyric the portfolio Cyric got from Bane when Bane "died". I don't remember which one. Probably something evil ;-)

It's all over the place in various FR RPG materials. But you're a "novel only" FR person, right? I've never seen the term in a FR novel. It'd be kind of ridiculous in a novel to have characters discussing what "portfolios" their gods carry. It seems to me in non-FR D&D, their called "spheres".

I think it's better to say that they're competing for the portfolio. To say they share it sounds like they're woking together.
And yes, Branmakmuffin, ever since I came on here and heard the term portfolio to refer to this (this being the first I'd ever heard of it) I was thinking the same thing. |

I think he took his own old portfolio back from Cyric.
Makes themm sound like investment bankers:

They would Compete with the same portfolio as Cyric and Kelemvor, Cyric and Kelemvor would more than likly just kill them again, and scatter there essence so that it would be harder to bring them back to life.

I'm pretty sure that his followers brought him back to life, as I understand it, gods never truly die, their essence is either scattered throughout the planes (the case of Bane) or the God's power is absorbed by another god (Case of the pre ToT Mystra).
So basically if people decided to bring back Myrkul and Bhaal they could work hard enough and find a way to bring them back.
(I could be wrong, but dont think that I am)

I think that Midnight killed Myrkul and Torm killed Bane but Bane was brought back by Lord Ao after the ToT. |

I've had this problem as well. The first series I read was the Avatar trilogy, and it was only about seven months ago. Now I can hardly remember who killed which god (especially with the Cyrinishad saying that Cyric killed so many of them.) |

Indeed, you can also look at it that way. It doesn't only have to be a disadvantage not to remember everything. Expecially when you own the books! You can always look into them en refresh your mind. Like zemd says, then it's just fun not to have remembered everything. |

I have the same problem, i begin to read FR 8 years ago. So i read them again from time to time (i'm reading Tantras right now). It's cool to not remember everything, it's always a pleasure to read them |

Mirt, even a casual look will tell you this. I know I have forgotten many things, and only noticed how much when I joined this forum in late January. I don't have many of the books, and most of what I have are the few that my brother did/does not.
I recently resolved to read through them again, as well as to visit the retail bookstores (I've been spoiled by used-book prices, and so haven't been around to notice new books).
However, the curse of Real Life invades my plans constantly. At least I'm done with my midterms -- perhaps I'll manage it over this next week, which I have off. Perhaps not. I still have a paper due, and a backlog of non-FR books. But we'll see. |
