Posted - 21 Sep 2005 : 19:55:16 Just wondering, how much contact *is* there between Faerūn & Zakhara? I know there is some trade and some adventurers that appear in the Land of Fate now and then, but I'm a bit more interested in how it stands from the Faerūnian side (the Zakharan attitudes are explained in the relevant 2nd. ed. material)
Which areas would have most contact with Zakhara? How much would an educated Faerūnian know of this southern continent? Would cultural clashes be likely and if so of what kind? (This of course would vary by region...) ? |

I might like him if I knew more about him (that often happens, as stats aren't always enough to go by). |

Er, it's actually Elfinster but my bad. :)
Elfinster, 12th Ajami Mage, Male Human, Runs The School of the Mage of Shadowdale in Huzuz, the City of Delights. Husband of Amsha al-Lanim, City of Delights.
Ha ha, what a dork.
Mod Edit: I hit the wrong button. Damn it.
I always like that NPC because he hates/dislikes the old windbag that lives in Shadowdale. |

I am currently going through Lands of Intrigue, (downloaded it off the WotC site), in it they make a reference to a Tethyrian noble returning from a trade mission to Zakhara. Admittedly, that was in Tethyr's past, but, if they traded with Zakhara in the earlier years, now that Tethyr is stable again under King Haedrak and Queen Zaranda, I figure that trade with Zakhara would resume. Remember, during the Middle Ages, trade with the East was so lucrative that if a captain brought one ship back, he could pay off his investors and still have more than enough to live comfortably. I believe the same would be true for Tethyr. Trade with Zakhara would be profitable enough to take the risks... Just my thoughts... |

...That sounds very odd indeed :p |

A few of the concubines of the ruler are also from Faerun. One is even from Maztica!. Haluraa has had one of thier air ships taken from them. Elfminster, who hates Elminster, set up shop there after he left Shadowdale because of the old windbag. There's a few others that arrived from Faerun.
ELFminster? that“s a name i“ve never heard before! can you tell me where he“s mentioned? |

Where, pray tell, are you finding all of these neat tidbits? That is absolutely hilarious.
I think Faerun should just kick the City of Shade over to Zakhara, that way there is no fuss between the Shades and the rest of the Realms... oh yeah, I guess a small problem would be that the Shades want Faerun, not a substitute. :)

The references are scattered throughout Zakhara material. :) Of course most of those npc's are also in my file. I know, I know. I have to finish that thing soon! I'm getting there and there's only 13 or so sourcebooks left to do. :) |

*That* Sounds awfully interesting. |

Also the Bedine are the result of Zakharans that went through a portal. |

Posted - 22 Sep 2005 : 01:47:27 I'd even go as far as saying that Calimshan, Chult, the Border Kingdoms, and most of the regions south of the Shining Sea have each, at their own time, had dealings with cities and places of importance in Zakhara.
There are a few mentions in the supplements for the Al-Qadim setting. The most accessible being those from the free downloads available at WotC:- Corsairs of the Great Sea and Caravans.

Posted - 21 Sep 2005 : 22:51:04 I'm not terribly familiar with that part of the Realms... But I'd say that the greatest contact between Zakhara and the rest of the Realms would be in the Shining South.
There was a half-Zakharan character in the novels Finder's Bane and Tymora's Luck. |
