Hello I was looking through the site when i stumbled on a link to the Dlabbradath Net and was wondering about soemthing contained wthin it's volumes. The first is it reminded me of two frotunes I read and was wondering if there is anymore detial or insight to them the first. In Fait's and Pantheaons it states that Dendar the Night Serpent shall come forth and try to eat the sun and if Ubtao fails to defeat her Toril is doomed. Second(I don't know if it is canon) In the Dlabbradath Net a page says that in the elven Arcanum a prophesy fortells the coming of the Seven and that a huge war will be fought over the fate of Toril the particular paragraph statingthe elves will be involved greatly. Is there anymore info on either of them?

Thanks.

The new novel Viper's Kiss deals with this subject a bit. :) I suggest reading it, though read Venom's Taste first.

I agree with Kentinal's thinking. Often these prophecies, especially Alaundo's, are predicted very early on and gives people a chance to avert disaster or change it. For example, Alaundo's prophecy on Cormyr. Everything that Alaundo predicted that would happen to Cormyr did happen, but the guardians that were supposed to deal with this prophecy did not do as they were intended and still Cormyr and its citizens saved themselves. So basically, these prophecies can be averted, even if they do happen.

In Prince of Lies Dendar aluded to the fact that she was almost "full" of nightmares, which meant she would end the world, but then she was rather forcefully "emptied" of them and as such she doesn't seem to be an IMEDIATE threat . . .

I offer two anwsers.

1) It is true the Prophecy appears to be canon, in that it was said. This does not mean it is accurate. ;-)

2) If ture (see 1 above) , it will happen at the time when it will happen. No Prophecy that I know of says year, month, day or hour that it will occur. They sometimes to indicate location and certain conditions.

I do not believe that anyone knows the time that this might happen. It allows for the building toward an event, but one that might be averted.
When actually ralking about a battle that could start days or even months before trying to eat the sun, which makes it even harder to point to any set start date.

It might not be canon though, appears fan written to me.

I encountered the article several years ago when Toby was posting on the FR mailing list. I never was given the impression it was canon although I think it's a nice piece of fan writing that could be used by a DM.

Looking around candlekeep some more, I find the article is listed under Various Unofficial Lore

The Secret of the Elven Retreat

By Toby Mekelburg

"Of the 2,000 or so prophecies within the Arcanum, only about 1/4 have come to pass. Among the prophecies, one stands out as the most important to the elves. Foretold by the sage Galaralith Durothil, who wrote many of the prophecies, is the ending of the world and its rebirth:

"And the Ending shall come,
Brought about by the Seven
Raise the standard of War
Only the People to stand against Them
With Man to deliver the Verdict
In Light or Dark the world reborn"

This prophecy, commonly called the Finale by the elves, is perhaps the most straight-forward of Galaralith's prophecies. "

I'm drawing a blank here, too...

I've never heard anything about this Second Prophecy.

George, what do you know about it?
DDH_101 Posted - 16 Jan 2005 : 06:20:27
Senbar, I think the second prophecy you are talking about might have something to do with Alaundo's prophecies. I remember reading abotu a giant war that will happen in 21-something DR...
