So I was just now browsing one of me fave websites, www.godchecker.com

The site it a nice look at various mythologies from around the world, but all are present very much tongue-in-cheek.

I was looking at the new Celtic section, and saw a listing for "Ogma":

Also known as OGMIOUS

OGMA: God of Eloquence.

His name seems to be short for Ogmious, who invented a sort of Celtic shorthand, rather like runes, that no-one can read. So no-one knows quite what he is trying to say. Probably blarney.

His ears are chained to his tongue, which seems rather masochistic, but we are told it is to signify in some bizarre way that he is the God of Eloquence. Or maybe he is just tongue-tied. Or likes talking to himself.

He could now also be the God of Blogs and Mobile Phones.

Yes, all those who use text messaging, bow down in worship.

Known as Oghma to the Celts of the British Isles, or Ogma on the continent, he was considered the god of scholars, the learned, and eloquence. And the writing system he was supposed to hand down actually is readable. There's even an alphabetical translation of the script.

Ogmios (the Celtic interpretation) invented the runic language of the Druids. He is also said to have escorted souls on their journey to the after-live. He is usually (although some of the more traditional texts dispute this fact) represented as an old man, with a bald head, and dressed in a lion skin (or stag skin in some works). His attributes are the bow and stick (staff in later images). He was also worshipped for a time, in Gaul (Celtic France).

Yeah, but that's not as much fun to read as the version I posted.
