I was reading through the Manual of the Planes and FRCS and noticed some planes differ while others are the same with the same NPCs. Such as Baator having Asmodeus the archdevil in both books. However some planes do not exist in the FR cosmology tree that appear in the MotP. Would say the Abyss and Baator be the same from the two books since MotP speaks about the Blood War as well. I realize MotP is a "core" book being that its the default Greyhawk book but is it really? It's the only book for 3.5 that gives a more detailed description of the planes, there is no "planes" book that I know of for realms.

The classical way: the Clueless from Realmspace tend to have their own opinions, biased toward importance of locally venerated pantheons. As usual.

they are all written for the core setting, 3.x was greyhawk

Anyway, it's good as a toolkit, but not as a replacement for Planescape materials.

Yup.

I agree with Shemmy. There is a lot more lore on the Great Wheel, and the majority of the planar references in Realmslore are based on the Great Wheel. And the Great Wheel was around long before the newer flavors of cosmology.

I personally think the Great Wheel is a more elegant and easily expanded cosmology than most of the others I've seen, whether for the Realms or for other game settings. That said, if I was running a campaign, there is a lot of niftiness I'd lift from Golarion's cosmology to port over to the Realms.

both would have been better if, neither version was setting attached, as in leave the deities out and use the what angel/archon/deva/whatnot lives in what not plane........

just use the great wheel.

Warrior's Rest was previously called Knight's Rest, if I recall correctly, and was found in the Everchanging Chaos of Limbo. It would also make sense to have Warrior's/Knight's Rest have access to Ysgard as there is a battle field where the warriors fight and die every day only to be "reborn" each morning to do it all over again.

For instance Warrior's Rest (FR) is not in the MotP, what would be the equivalent or a proper conversion from the book?

Honestly it is purely your preference at this point...like Lord of Bones I use the 2e Planescape orginazation of the planes, with a few tweaks here and there as new planar lore has been released (included the MoP)...so it's really what works for you and your campaign...

Oh ok, so I could go with what's in Manual of the Planes for FR?

The Abyss and Baator are the same in both cosmologies, yes, though Tiamat has abandoned Avernus in the FR cosmology (though I did read an adventure where she'd left an avatar behind there). The World Tree cosmology is not quite as simple as renaming the planes of the Great Wheel cosmology, but you'll definitely find strong similarities and sometimes the same landmarks.

I just use the 2e planes.

However, the Abyss and Baator are the same. The Fugue Plane is basically the Gray Waste, the BoDaD are a hybrid of Gehenna and Acheron, and so on.
