Can anyone point me to any lore pertaining to which elven Houses have baelnorn? Specifically, which ones have the most baelnorns in the family and which ones are watchnorns (assuming there is a difference b/w the two)? I would also like to know about any unique types of baelnorn that are known. I know one such has mithril skin or something along those lines.

I'm with The Arcanamach, I think I'd use a more elvish name if I ever had the intention of bringing a baelnorn in my campaign. But Mel Odom chose this name, and it was published, so here it is...

There is a baelnorn in The Lost Library of Cormanthyr novel. I don't remember his name, though, gotta check it out at home.

EDIT: Here it is, in page 282 - Nevft Scoontiphp

Looks more like a gnomish name...

I'm going from memory, but I think Nevft was indeed an elven baelnorn.

I also found it strange, because I'd initially placed Scoontiphp on my listing of official Realms gnomish names.

Oh, I wasn't questioning that -- I was just commenting that the name doesn't look any kind of elvish.

I would never use that name for an elf, especially a kewl baelnorn.

If I recall correctly, these are a few others:

Lashyrr Maerdrymm, from Sea Devil's Eye
Corineus, from The Siege
Miroden Silverblade, from Pool of Radiance

There's a few others like:

Ilrune Symbaern
Tordynnar Rhaevaern
For a time the Srinshee was one.
Alarendi Eveningshine

There's a few others mentioned in 3e material but they weren't given clan/surnames so I didn't post them, or they weren't named at all.

I recall something along those lines in a novel now that you mention it. Mayhaps I will need to re-read it after I finish my current books. Thanks. Of course, if anyone wants to save me the trouble, I would be much obliged.

Thank you sir. I have access to that lore, I was just hoping there might some lore I missed. I didn't buy much of anything from 4e, for instance, which means I may have missed some new lore on the topic. Cheers.

If I remember correctly, Elminster visited several baelnorns in the novel, Elminster in Hell. Unfortunately, I can't recall their family names, or what he discussed with them. But I'm pretty sure it was that novel.

The best source would be Cormanthyr. Ruins of Myth Drannor, which introduced baelnorn, said there were at least 20 still alive in the ruins (and that there were many more before the Fall), but only names one: Ilrune Symbaern.

To this Cormanthyr adds a number of unnamed baelnorn (like the Guardian Paramours) as well as some named ones like:

* Synnorha Durothil
* The Audark clan
* Two unnamed Haladars
* Braerinda Calauth (the baelnorn with the mithril skin, the result of a unique spell)

The term "watchnorn" is one of several nicknames given by elves to give a general sense of what the baelnorn does. Cormanthyr lists several such:

* Watchnorns: lurking observers and lesser guardians of public places or family lands, especially Castle Cormanthor
* Lorenorns: those choosing to act as tutors, librarians, or merely students of Art beyond their normal span of years
* Guardnorns or Wardnorns: powerful guardians of crypts and other secret places or as the sole protector of particularly powerful items

Though it's made clear that all baelnorn can and often do do all of these.
