Posted - 20 Jan 2004 : 05:52:43 "perhaps it is because I found great pleasure in casting a memory charm upon him" lee quickly addresses to The Shadowlord in the silent drow hand language... I think it is very clever of Wizards to link the two games together in this abnormally subtle way.... |

Posted - 19 Jan 2004 : 06:57:20 Yup, it surely is that card... Baldur's Gate is Wizards of the Coast, right? And Magic the Gathering is too, so it looks like Wizards is doing a bit of advertising for themselves.... Funny that BG's never mentioned in Magic though. |

Posted - 19 Jan 2004 : 01:20:54 when you are going to where they house the gladiators, there are two hidden rooms. One leads to a sewer, and another has a small room where they talk about black lotus. |

I don't know, it was in the Copper Coronet in BG II, in a hidden room. Also at the city gates with a traveling "merchant" (shadow thief).

Posted - 18 Jan 2004 : 18:45:07 I think the Black Lotus is an inversion of the typical Lotus Flower that was sacred to the ancient Egyptians. The Lotus that was revered by the people of this time was a bright white water plant or water lilly which bloomed at dusk. The Egyptians used the Lotus to symbolize the sun and possibly birth...therefore, a Black Lotus would symbolize...death? |

Posted - 18 Jan 2004 : 16:05:53 References to 'Black Lotus' abound in the Baldur's Gate games, both I and II. It can obviously be gathered that 'Black Lotus' is a narcotic, but as to whether or not any canon Forgotten Realms sources regarding said narcotic exist...I'll get back to you. As for the nature of 'Black Lotus', the concept of it being similar to cannabis makes sense, particularly for the time period the Realms generally corolate to (If I remember correctly cocaine and heroin, as well as most other drugs, did not exist as we know them today. Most opiates and cocaine did not become big until some what later in history, as both heroin and cocaine require a certain level of processessing to produce, where as cannabiss does not.), though I get the distinct impression the various references to said drug were something of a joke on the part of the game designers. |
