Posted - 11 May 2006 : 22:19:14 Well there are dark elves, problem is to avoid copyright laws, I had to call them Grindarin instead of drow. So one could just use the terms Grindarin or Drow interchangeably, they mean the same thing by my construction. Thanks for the feedback, Millithor. |

Wow. There's a flashback. The Shadow Elves was one of the first Gazeteers in Mystara on which I worked way back in 1990/1991....
That'll be fun to resurrect out of storage in July to blow dust off of and reread. In the meantime, let's see what stuff Selrahc has in mind....
Well met
Really? Now that is interesting, I hadn't realised! The Gazeteers are the few remaining original D&D products I own and still list then in my all-time favorite D&D products |

Posted - 05 May 2006 : 14:26:20 Ok the history comes with a bit of dialogue between the main character and a wood elf, I use dark elves but to avoid copyright infringement, I don't call them Drow. Well here ya go:
“Arcamenel? That’s a Wood elven name,” she said, glad he hadn’t tried to ask her again. “Why does your elder have a wood elven name?” “The elder is a member of the first Shadow elven family; his great grandfather’s mother fell in love with a Grindarin soldier,” he said. “A dark elf? But aren’t they evil?” she asked surprised at what she was hearing. “Yes, but this soldier spared her, he shared her love and they had a child. He was killed on his return to the Grindarin Capital for his treachery, the child was an outcast, and they fled into the deep caves below. Slowly more and more elven children were cast from their home for being part Grindarin,” Selrahc continued, the topic obviously weighing heavy upon him. “How were these other elves coming about? I doubt any would follow the first’s example,” she questioned wanting to know more. “Rape, after the first incident, the Grindarins made it a sport to get surface elves pregnant and leave them with the burden during each raid,” he grimaced at the dark history. “The mothers were given an option: abandon the child or be banished along with it.” “That’s terrible!” she exclaimed, horrified at this gruesome secret. “Not all of them were banished. My family was lucky enough that our ancestors had light, tan surface skin; however, we were still disowned by our half-brethren. Our lighter skin allowed us to withstand the sun and blend in with the other elves. Despite that, I was still marked as an outcast in my early days, before my parents sent me to basics academy in my third decade. Even in this third millennia of Shadow elven existence, we are loathed by the dark and cast out by the light, the very races that create us, curse our existence. It’s getting better, but only because of our expansion and increase in surface blood, but every Shadow elf knows what they are, renegades.” “Three millennia of exile, do you think it will ever change?” Lyndzay asked him. “It has gotten better, but the torment will never end. Shadow elves will never be accepted, only reluctantly acknowledged. You saw the town’s reaction to Amras’ toast to my companions and I,” he grimly replied, his tone dark and haunting. /EDIT: After that they didn’t talk much, only sharing a word or two at night, during guard shift changes, and in the morning. Selrahc pressed on as if trying to put the retelling of his history behind him. Lyndzay silently regretted pushing him to tell the story; she missed his more carefree attitude. She began to worry for him; a smile hadn’t crossed his face since that morning with the rabbits. It was as though he was waiting for her to say something. She began to think about it, she had become as cold as he was. “I may not speak on behalf of all Wood elves, but I accept you,” Lyndzay finally said, shattering the bonds of the unrelenting silence. “How can you say that? You continued your race’s exile of my kind, when you questioned my hand gesture,” Selrahc snapped back coldly. “Do you even know the dark history of that sad ritual?” “Not exa-” she started, but Selrahc’s maddened state made him deaf to her words. “It comes from the conditioning of how my people were treated. We were viewed like an infectious disease, as though our touch was death.” “But you don’t-” she began again, and again Selrahc cut her off. “I understand perfectly, you know nothing. The rest of the elven population was fed a lie and turned a blind eye to our suffering,” Selrahc was furious, she couldn’t get a word in, and when she did the situation got worse. “Now, where did that treatment get them? It got the Light elves to abandon us and separated our races in the face of this human threat.” Unable to better her situation, Lyndzay gave up on trying to talk to him. She hung her head in submission, Selrahc was too furious to reason with. “I shouldn’t have said anything, I’m sorry,” she tearfully whispered as she walked past him. Selrahc stopped, he blinked several times. “No,” he said walking up behind her. “I’m the one who should be sorry. I didn’t mean to get like that. It’s just so frustrating to know about how terribly my kind was treated, but it’s still no reason to hold a grudge.” “But you have good reason to be angry.” “There’s never a good reason to yell at someone.” Lyndzay looked up at him; he smiled weakly as he wiped one of her tears away, and then kneeled, bowing his head as he waited for forgiveness. “Apology accepted,” she said. “Jerk.” She reached out a hand and pulled him to his feet; they shared a laugh, and continued up the path. She looked over at him. She was glad to see him smiling again. /End of Edit/
That's the basics of it, I need to see if I've explained it better in a later passage. If I have, I'll post that up as well. Another thing to note is that this book is still in its early stages so alot can and probably will change. EDIT: I found some more. I left in some of the dialogue so you can get more of a feel for my writing style.

I am writing my own book and I was trying to create my own race of elves, thus far they are outcasts and have a very dark history about how they came to be. I will probably post the story of how they came to exist to see if anyone can inform me if I am following the proper guides of each race.
I've seen a couple of different versions of shadow elves... I've never really paid attention to them, though. Aren't they a Mystaran race?

Posted - 03 May 2006 : 10:08:01 Weal! The faery idols are too old and out of touch to be effective. Lolth is a being that is true to hersel---I mean followers She promises power nothing else,Any who wish to compete with her better be able to offer the same. She's just a woman scorned,to bad correlon wasn't man enough to handle a darkly beutiful, opionated woman like her(Too androgenous),no wonder she has such a low oppion of males. Vhaerawn was my pick until I realized he was a weakling(vhea-ran vs selvetarm) pitiful, defeated by a demi-power.kiaransalee will soon out stripe him,and shar is probably gonna eat him and claim his porfolio. THUs the only true power for the drow is--me! DARKFLAME MILLITHOR future GOD of drowmagic, faerezz, power, drowwizards, travelers,The matrix, binder of the telquesir, heir of Kanarlist, the founder of the future realm of elvendar(cormantyr reborn)the true home of ALL elves(unlike evermeet's racist inhabitants).though me, my drow followers will reclaim their birthright of highmagic, drive back the enemies of the poeple and humble the humans.Again!

It is known to us suface elfs that the only reason the drow don`t make a big offencive on the surface world is because they can not agree in anything, and they are to consumed in their own favor to lolth to reach the ultimate goal; destroy the elven way of life.(revenge)
Ofcourse the fact that Lolth is the drow god of chaos does not make the thing any easier, to encourage the drows to chaos and selfishness does not help the situation(for the drows). so i quess we can thank/blame Lolth for the drow problem.
Ahh, but i do not follow Lolth, I follow Vhaeraun, and he does not have that problem...... |

Dead on analysis. The dark elves will not rise to power again until Lolth perishes and the race is free of her influence. |

This is a typical exampel why the evil will not triumph, you can not put the differences between you aside to reatch the larger goal. this is why the seldarin and the good human Gods will triumph in the end.
