Posted - 16 Oct 2011 : 16:27:37 The title of a book draws a reader as much as its cover and blurb. Some stories do not live up to their titles and blurbs, and vice versa. But at times, or maybe most often, the interesting sound of a title resonates the quality of the story.
So, what do you think is the catchiest title of all? |

Posted - 29 Aug 2013 : 15:46:34 I agree with SPELLFIRE. It's catchy and a cool combination of words. The setting could have been called SPELLFIRE. Reminds me of Star Wars as a title. |

I am torn between Unholy and Scream of Stone. Both are quite evocative, but I'll have to go with Unholy its more succinct and really catches the feel of the series.
I'm not particularly fond of one-word titles. But Unholy rings dread and mystery that easily capture my attention.
Yes it really suits the tone of the series, i quite liked the cover art of the novel as well. |

Posted - 07 Jul 2012 : 20:41:55 Without even reading the list, the first title that came to mind was "Eighth King . . . of Mithral Haaalllllll!!!", from Streams of Silver. I can't visualize that title without dramatic muzak playing in the background of my mind, trumpets blaring and cymbals crashing and drums booming and what-not. |

Posted - 26 Dec 2011 : 00:41:58 In the case of series titles, I would vote War of the Spider Queen. Next on my list would be The Year of Rogue Dragons. The former rings with some preternatural chaos.
I would have to mention Richard's The Masked Witches. It sounds one of a kind, too ---if friend Google isn't lying, it's the only novel published with that title. |

Oh.
Titles that have "ring" in them do not usually grab me, since there are quite many of them, Lord of the Rings being the prime example. Same goes to titles with "shadow."
I feel the same way with other titles that use the same words over and over like the "Dragons of...." in the Dragonlance series. I enjoy a thoughtful attention grabbing title or one that makes me think of some awesome fantastical image. |

Posted - 02 Nov 2011 : 17:42:07 As titles go, I always liked the sound of Escape from Undermountain because it evokes something that sounds hard to do, depending on how far in you find yourself. I also like the titles of all the trilogies. |

Posted - 02 Nov 2011 : 14:44:53 The individual book titles are also good, especially The Ruin, but not as catchy as the trilogy's title. |

How about The Year of Rogue Dragons? Sounds catchy to me; makes me think of dragons on unbridled rampage and literally shaking the lands.
I enjoyed the title for the trilogy, but the short individual book title names are not to my liking. |

The Shield of Weeping Ghosts
It doesn't only sound good. It also makes you think of some wonderful things. It's one of the nigh-perfect Realms novels out there. The story lives up to the promise of the title, the blurb, and the prologue. |

Is the Abolethic Sovereignty a trilogy or longer series??
It's a trilogy, but in a sense you could say it's a quadrilogy if you count Stardeep as a sort of unofficial prequel (as "Raidon Kane" is in it as well).
They're all pretty awful IMO. For one of the "Dungeons" series books, Stardeep features one of the most uninteresting dungeons ever. Plague of Spells really doesn't have all much to do with investigating the Spellplague or Mystra's death, other than several characters having spellscars that give them extremely overpowered mutant powers. Oh, and at one point (I forget exactly where in the trilogy), they visit the Plaguelands for "answers" that end up being a waste of pages.
City of Torment is actually a little better, as you start getting a tiny bit of character development. But then the final book, Key of Stars ends up being the worst of the set. The combat scenes are painful, because everybody is overpowered, especially the spellscarred characters, and it reads like a Marvel Superheroes novel for kids.
The dialogue, in parts, is written in a jokey style that's meant to be humorous but comes off (again) in a rather juvenile manner. The final battle is hollow, nothing really is revealed about the reasons/lore/history of the rather interesting ruins seen at the end, and the final scenes are pure cheese of the "aww, he loved his mommy!" variety.
Just... ugh. The whole thing had tons of promise, and the underlying concepts, settings, characters, they all could've been very interesting. But it all just falls short.

A trilogy. AFAIK, Bruce didn't express any intention of continuing or expanding it to a longer series. |

Plague of Spells is really awful IMO, I'd avoid it. Beyond having one of the worst "Mary Sue" style characters in the entirety of Realms fiction, the story itself is forced with really juvenile dialogue. It's not "Lovecraftian" at all.
