So, are any of my fellow scribes making the attempt this year?

...

Every year I keep saying I'll give it a go. Then I come to the realisation that deadlines and I usually don't like to meet in the same sentence, so I leave it alone.

And every year I keep saying next year's attempt will be different.

...

I hope.

I missed the word count for the month, but I don't think I failed otherwise. I finished the story that has been begging me to finish it for the past year!
Ayrik Posted - 01 Dec 2010 : 07:03:36
Hmmm. Give the authors a chance to punch me back. Count me in. This one's over - is there anything sooner than next year?
Sandro Posted - 01 Dec 2010 : 06:39:45
Aye, many congratulations; 'tis quite the feat, and certainly worth no small deal of respect.

Well done.
Alystra Illianniis Posted - 01 Dec 2010 : 05:58:52
Thanks. It was a lot of fun. I'll definitely be doing it again next year. How about you guys?
Ashe Ravenheart Posted - 01 Dec 2010 : 04:50:35
Yes, congrats Alystra!
Dennis Posted - 01 Dec 2010 : 02:49:55
Congrats, Alystra!
Mr_Miscellany Posted - 01 Dec 2010 : 02:43:00
Congrats to Alystra!

I didn't get much past the first week. However I did produce enough bits to use in other projects, like my War Wizard write ups.
Alystra Illianniis Posted - 01 Dec 2010 : 02:31:04
It was hard, and I had to work over-time a couple of days here and there to meet the goals, but it was worth it. I'm definitely motivated now to keep going. I really want to finish this tale. My condolences to everyone who didn't make it this time around. There's always next year...
Matt James Posted - 01 Dec 2010 : 01:37:18
I failed horribly! I've plenty of excuses though-- many of which include other design work.
The Sage Posted - 30 Nov 2010 : 23:49:54
I pretty much stopped after about the 10th of November. Since then, I've been on and off without much attention to adhering to a daily word-count.
Ashe Ravenheart Posted - 30 Nov 2010 : 21:54:59
Haven't tried since I stalled out in the second week due to a lot of professional and personal stuff going on (and my Xbox got repaired... ) and never got a chance to sit down and write more. <sigh>
Alystra Illianniis Posted - 30 Nov 2010 : 19:52:49
Anyone else having problems with the verify thing? I can't get it to work....

Edit: NM. It worked- finally. Yea!! Final count- 165,454. (Yes, it really IS that long.)
Alystra Illianniis Posted - 17 Nov 2010 : 20:27:44
I am familiar with that book, too. You might also like "Bird by Bird". It's a great book on writing. I'm trucking along- a little behind, but only about two days worth. So I'm happy.
Mr_Miscellany Posted - 17 Nov 2010 : 20:24:38
One good thing about this project (failed though it may be for me thusfar) is that I've found some good books on the craft of writing.

I'm reading Stephen King's "On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft" and enjoying myself silly.

He's perfectly willing to write about his early memories of writing in a blunt manner. Wiping one's butt with poison ivy as a kid is not something I'd announce to the world, but King isn't afraid to write about that part of his life since it relates to what he's trying to communicate to the reader about writing.
Mr_Miscellany Posted - 14 Nov 2010 : 04:06:01
Sadly I've fallen far behind in my writing.
Ashe Ravenheart Posted - 12 Nov 2010 : 02:57:29
I've fallen victim to Week 2 doldrums. I got a game on Saturday, and have to do some baking for the game tomorrow night, so I'm not sure how much I'll get before Sunday.
Lady Fellshot Posted - 12 Nov 2010 : 02:41:57
I've fallen behind and gotten stuck... until I realized that I had gotten stuck because I had finished the first story that I wanted an ending for. Who knew it would only take another 15k words to do it.

Now I need to start hammering out the end of the other story I've had around forever. I might not make the word count, but I am as happy as can be!
Ashe Ravenheart Posted - 10 Nov 2010 : 13:20:58
Ugh... Hadn't been able to crank out anything last two nights due to headaches.

I'm beginning to notice a pattern of working on the weekends...
Sandstorm Posted - 10 Nov 2010 : 08:01:59
gaH!! im relatively new to this site, and just found out about this. I know it's not related to this site in particular, but in real life I actually have no friends who write, no outside encouragement. Its just me and my "pen" *ahem* keyboard. I'll be doing this next year for sure.
Lady Fellshot Posted - 08 Nov 2010 : 06:59:12
I had a really good day of writing. There must be some major cold fighting properties of homemade kim-chee soup that I was previously unaware of, because I feel much better too! I'm stopping just shy of 12k tonight.

Everyone sounds like they are doing well though.
Alystra Illianniis Posted - 08 Nov 2010 : 06:10:15
I slept more than half the day, so I only got 1166, after doing dishes and other minor chores today, but at least it was something. I really needed the rest, though.
Ashe Ravenheart Posted - 08 Nov 2010 : 04:20:55
Ah well, not 10,000, but I did get past 6,000.

(stupid Eagles game, then stupid Sherlock Holmes, then stupid Walking Dead)
Mr_Miscellany Posted - 08 Nov 2010 : 03:36:56
I'm waaaaay behind. But will be catching up as best I can. (only 7,306 words in). Seeing all the other scribe's posts keeps me going!
Lady Fellshot Posted - 07 Nov 2010 : 18:03:33
That's awesome Ashe!

I've had a minor set back that was nonetheless awesomely fun (had to go to a wedding) and I still got something written in the car on the way up. I'm hoping to make 12k today. :)
Ashe Ravenheart Posted - 07 Nov 2010 : 16:01:55
Got to over 4000 last night, hoping to get to over 10,000 tonight.

Here's a good trick: I have had the entire story arc in my head for about a year (it's also going to be a campaign for my players in Pathfinder). So I know the breakdown of each "chapter" and how each one opens and ends. Instead of writing it linearly, I'm going through and getting each of the chapter's openings finished to bookmark the idea of what's going on there. Then I can go back and detail the rest later.

Hopefully. I'm really good at beginnings and endings. It's the middle stuff that I get blocked on...
Alystra Illianniis Posted - 07 Nov 2010 : 06:53:40
I got to 1599 today. In SPITE of feeling like crap, spending half the day running around town shopping and helping my mom rearrange her kitchen cabinets, and taking a series of short naps due to fatigue and horrendous headache. I intend to do at least 3000 tomorrow to make up for not getting any yesterday, and to catch up on the shortages from the last few days. I'm locking myself in the trailer all day!
Lady Fellshot Posted - 06 Nov 2010 : 05:59:41
Congrats!
Daviot Posted - 06 Nov 2010 : 05:43:12
And despite a late start due to circumstances beyond my control (including a rough draft and some art for the Kobold Quarterly blog), I've gone from zero to 3000 in a day. Huzzah!

Gehenna: The Package Description is up.
Alystra Illianniis Posted - 05 Nov 2010 : 16:09:54
Haha, ditto!
Ashe Ravenheart Posted - 05 Nov 2010 : 16:01:24
I will be locking myself in my apartment this weekend. There will be a giant hamster bottle of water near my desk and a rotation of hot pockets/microwave burritos for meals until I reach 12,000+ words.
