who are the surviving netherleese arcanist in the realms and would they have superior spellcraft knowlege. do your think they are in the unkwonn lands (whats your theory)

sorry about all the questions but if don't ask...............

Larloch is an ultra lich 42 lv in 2nd ed and 32 lv in 3rd ed with 34 int 24 wis and also the only known survivor of Netheril. He has also control over 100 s of liches. he can cast 17th lv spell and his CR 34 (not bad)
Szass Tam was 29 lv necromancer in 2nd ed. He is the head of Thay.
And a rumour I heard Lorloch controls Tam now.

Correct me if I'm wrong but theoretically the Shrinshee would be one of the most powerful mages, she was 6? levels higher than Elminster (going by 2nd edition rules), more powerful still than Larloch, and she could cast High Magic

There was also Emperor shoon, who was a 32nd level Archlich(2nd ed again)

But I wouldn't like to mageduel Elminster seeing as he always used to break the 2nd ed rules for character creation - He'd probably cheat.

I was teasing,I guess you took it as sarcasm.I know you have the books but I knew you looked this stuff up that you don't memorize
and there is nothimg wrong with that.

Elminster probably has the most powerful allies too.Get the books back out Arivia.
Arivia Posted - 18 Oct 2003 : 00:27:12
The answer depends also upon what edition.

In 3e, Elminster is the NPC with the highest CR(the highest CR monster is the great wyrm prismatic dragon). He is higher level than Alassra, Larloch, Halaster and Szass Tam. Azuth is higher level than Elminster, however. Those statistics do not take into account the Epic Level Handbook, which increases his level dramatically, likely.
In 2e, Alassra and Halaster are higher level than Elminster, while Szass Tam ties with him.
It basically comes down to which qualities you are looking at. Elminster has the most sheer power, but Larloch can field endless armies onto a battlefield, while Halaster has the largest dungeon.
Jander Sunstar Posted - 18 Oct 2003 : 00:16:24
I don't know anything about the scroll you mentioned but I insist that Azuth was the greatest and it is hard to say that El is now

Dark Lord level is not everithing but I believe a spell duell both with Larloch or Szass Tam between El is imposible because all of them prefer to come to battle with all of their allies.
Dark_Lord Posted - 18 Oct 2003 : 00:07:54
Actually Halaster is higher level than Elminster. I'm not sure but I also think that Tam and Larloch are too.

I didn't say it was right but He is the most Powerful.

Elminster is invincable, how could anyone be greater.I guess Ed made him that way on purpose so he couldn't be defeated.
Jander Sunstar Posted - 17 Oct 2003 : 00:46:43
If we say ever lived that one would be Azuth. he was the first magister able to defeat a god in a spell battle. He defeated Savras and their battle took years. No lorloch or karsus is a match for him, I should say was actually.
Blacksage Posted - 17 Oct 2003 : 00:17:19
Wait and see,
Who the most powerful will be,
Elminster, Halaster.. all will flee,
From crumbling to dust before me.

(from the diary of a mad mage)
(it is supposed to be the last entry,
before he vanished into unknown)
Cult_Leader Posted - 13 Oct 2003 : 13:05:37
Yeah I have to agree with you on that one Lina. He does strike me as one of the most powerful as well. But mark my words the Dragon Kings are so much more powerful. But thats in DarkSun not FR.
Lina Posted - 12 Oct 2003 : 04:43:08
Elminster struck me as one of the more powerful mages.

I believe that the Blackstaff is the most INTERESTING of FR archmages - a great character...

However, I believe that Karsus the Mad of Netheril was the most powerful mage of all time....
Cult_Leader Posted - 08 Oct 2003 : 13:18:57
Well if yu happen to come across the second edtion books for DarSun called Dragons Kings. You can read about someone I wont talk about. I will let you read that book under the wizard section and let you formulate your own opinion. However..... If I could rase a NATION of undead at a thought. I think i would be in the buisness of ruling.
MuadDib Posted - 08 Oct 2003 : 06:40:56
My immediate answer would be Elminster or The Simbul. Why? Because they are the only two I have read about so take that!! ha ha ha

Ok, but then, between the two of them, it depends what you take for fact, and what is character opinion. In the Seven Sister booklet thingymabob, Mordenkainen says he believes that Allasra could best any two of them in an open spell battle. Yet, in the novel Elminster in Hell, he does battle with her, and he wins. Well, sorts, he kicks her till she bleeds, but you know what i mean.

So there is my two very uneducated cents on the matter. For further reference, I stand with Sage and Bookwyrm

Im probably wrong but i am going to say Eliminster juet to spark the arguement.
