Posted - 17 Feb 2008 : 22:12:36 Not sure if this is the right place to ask this. But I am looking for maps of the areas that contain the events of Elminster Making of a Mage. I enjoy referencing maps as I read novels so I am mostly interested to know what Athalantar looked like.

Ironically, Ed was asked to provide a map of Athalantar twice: once when writing the Making Of A Mage novel, and again when writing that article. He obliged, both times. I saw one of them (the for-the-book version). Off the maps went to TSR, they own them, and - - they have never seen the light of day. Sigh. love, THO
Just out of curiosity, Lady, did TSR ever provide a reason for why the map wasn't included in the "The Making of a Mage?" |

I would love for WotC to do a Campaign Guide for Athalantar.
As much as I'd like to see a CG published, I'm not sure it's really all that necessary. Given what we already know from the DRAGON #228 article, the details in LEoF, and the original source -- being Elminster: The Making of a Mage -- [as well as the tidbits Ed's shared with us here at Candlekeep over the years] we know enough to scout out our own details for a home campaign, and explore Athalantar in any way we truly wish to. |

Looks like a pretty useful resource.

Markus your link doesn't work. Just got Dragon 228 today. Thanks Nobleknight. Just to think that was the first Dragon Mag I bought when I got into D&D in 96 while stationed in Korea. Funny huh?
The 'map' was just a small piece of the official 3e FR map, circling the area where it was. I never did a map of Athalantar (but have always wanted to).
In fact, I would love to someday do historic maps of Faerun for every major era (an Imaskari one especially). I would also love to do Dwarvish and Elven versions of the FR map (because they would look very different then the human one - each race tends to only recognize their own geo-political areas. There is only so much time in a Markustay day... {sigh} |

Posted - 01 Jul 2012 : 07:14:43 On Eric Boyd's Chamber of Sages scroll (page 39), he rewrote the "Voices of the Lost" Perilous Gateways article (originally by Roger E. More) and makes mention in it of Athalantar.
That mention made me curious, because I didn't think Athalantar covered the area that borders what's talked about in Eric's re-write.
I cast Summon MarkusTay to save the day. |

Which post of Eric's are you referring to? I'd also still like to see a map. :) |

Posted - 27 Aug 2009 : 16:50:08 I'll have to check when I get home if I have #228 in my library (I've converted my home office into a library of all my gaming stuff- pics to follow :p). I am interested in seeing if a map of this area exists as well. If not, no worries. Just completing some research for a project. |

Posted - 17 Feb 2008 : 23:39:38 I don't recall any maps for Athalantar being published.
The DRAGON #228 article and the entry for Athalantar in Lost Empires of Faerūn [pg. 88] provide some details on how the nation was geographically situated. It should be enough for you to plot a rough map of the Kingdom of the Stag.
Athalantar "was located just south of what is now the High Forest." And was defined by the two rivers -- Delimbiyr and the Unicorn Run.

Posted - 17 Feb 2008 : 23:07:22 I know it used to be in the North, in the area around the Unicorn Run. As for a clearly delineated map of the kingdom? I'm not sure if there is one (officially, anyway). |
