Shadowlord Posted - 01 Mar 2004 : 05:50:15
This is taken from the Candlekeep Inn, and I'm turning it into a roleplaying opportunity, much like the Wanderer's Quest. However, all peoples are free to join, so long as their posts retain to the roleplaying topic.

As Shadowlord turns toward the back door, he hears some odd whispering that seems to be uttered in the harsh goblin tongue, coming from one of the back booths. Noticing this, he pulls up the hood of his drow piwafwi, and uses his skills as a shadowdancer to become invisible. "When we kill this Sha-do-lourd, I wants his weapons." "Mine, thems will be. I it will be who bites his filthy neck!" Sticking to the shadows, Tsabrak Teken'ghym, the Shadowlord, enters the booth, moving as silent as the grave. He notices that his would-be assailants are actually a bunch of mangy kobolds, though how they were able to gain entrance into the keep is a mystery. "Probably gave Alaundo a Kobold Cookbook," Shadowlord chuckles to himself. Positioning himself right behind the goblin-kin, Shadowlord tossed back his concealing piwafwi. "Why don't I settle this little argument for you?," he asked in a ringing voice. A fierce grin split his angular dark elven visage. "How about if you all get-nothing?" The kobolds froze, staring at the drow rogue in suprise and dread. One exceptionally brave kobold blurts out, "Yous is Sha-do-lourd? The elf-man lied! He sayed it was human wench!" Then, as one, the diminutive creatures shrieked in terror, scrambling over chairs and tables to escape the nightmare before them. There was nothing in all the Underdark that kobolds feared more than drow, and for good reason too. With one hand, Shadowlord drew his adamantite sword, while the other uncoiled a whip of pure shadowsilk from his belt. In an almost lazy gesture, he flicked his wrist, and the whip struck like a black serpent, taking the feet out from under one kobold. His sword soon followed, impaling the goblin-kin straight through the stomach. Like a dying insect, the kobold squirmed for a moment on the end of his blade. Then, Tsabrak heaved the creature aside, turning toward the next. Shadowlord's grin broadened as he cut a swath through the shrieking throng. Another kobold expired at the end of his blades, it's throat expertly slit, even as the creature's entrails were spilled upon the inn's clean wooden floors. Even as one hand wrested the blade away from his latest kill, the other lashed out with the whip. Supple shadowsilk coiled around a fleeing kobold's neck, stopping it in its tracks. The thing clutched at its throat, fingers scrabbling in vain. Shadowlord gave the whip an expert tug, snapping the pitiful creature's neck, and disposing of the last of the goblin-kin. Looking at all the blood strewn about the tavern, he sheathed his weapons, and threw a heavy sack full of platinum pieces toward the bar. "This should cover the cost of repairs, plus expenses." Turning his attention toward the patrons, he exclaims with an evil grin, "There are plenty of the fey folk here in Candlekeep. Now, the only trouble is discovering which surface elf ordered my demise?"

Is it just me or didnt we kill off this thread long ago? Anyone want to try to continue it? We might want to tone down the characters but other than that i dont see why not.

Your Quest is not over yet. The High Cult wills me to guide you to them. We have much to speak of. You will follow me, or i will use my training upon you.
Unsheaths swords. The sword gleams with what looks like permanent blood stains from a thousand brutal slayings.

>Narad picks up the symbol>
Something to remind me about this little quest...
Lets get back to Candlekeep shall we?
RaVeN1463 Posted - 01 Apr 2004 : 22:21:13
A good quest. But all good quests come to an end. Sheaths Alastor across his back and checks for his short swords at his waist seeing they are all there turns and walks to the corner near the exit of the cavern and leans against the wall. Well then back to the keep, I hope we have a better plan than to walk all the way home.

OOC://That wasn't Halaster. We didn't contact him yet. We merely found his journal.\\:OOC

Shadowlord smiles, then turns to Narad. "Ah, my friend. Back to Candlekeep. Seeing as how you've slaughtered the Cyricists, we really have nothing more to do..." [i]Seeing Narad's disbelieving expression, Shadowlord nudges the nearest corpse, and a unholy symbol of the Black Sun rattles to the floor.

>Narad comes closer>
Indeed it is. Shadowlord, you wouldn't have any idea about the location of our target?
RaVeN1463 Posted - 01 Apr 2004 : 03:42:23
Well thats a dead end. Im changing back. RaVeN/A walks over to Halaster's body and gets some blood and begain to trace the symbol in the ground. And begains the same odd ritual to change back to RaVeN. At the end of the Ritual RaVeN stands in the center of the symbol. Good to be back in my own body again. Being trapped in that sword is quite boring. Well it appears we are out of leads, and the trail is running cold.
Shadowlord Posted - 01 Apr 2004 : 02:12:00
Shadowlord sighs, and continues, "The scrolls reveal nothing. They are merely like Halaster's personal journal."
RaVeN1463 Posted - 01 Apr 2004 : 00:37:04
Well what now? To hell? Or do we have a new target revealed in those scrolles. Sitting down in the chair as Narad proceeds to hack down the remaining gaurds. Or should we question a few of the remaining maglings?
Shadowlord Posted - 31 Mar 2004 : 01:05:44
Shadowlord's reverie immediately ceases when his name is mentioned. "Indeed? Very well." Taking the random scrolls from the Reverie Couch, Shadowlord begins to browse through them. At one point, his angular face narrows into a frown, though this is as much of a reaction as his companions had ever seen on his face. "These are some of the personal scrolls of Halaster Blackcloak. They mention something about Avernus, First Layer of Hell, and about being cured of insanity. He then writes about a new way to bind archdevils to a spellcaster's will. Yes, I believe I will keep these parchments. Thank you, Raven." Looking at the trouble the robed mageling is causing his allies, Shadowlord sighs and waves his slender, ebon-skinned hand. "Mlakymib?"
RaVeN1463 Posted - 30 Mar 2004 : 22:09:55
Hacks his way through the imobalized bodies toward the desk seeing some papers on it. Turns Alastor around and makes a downward thrust down through the ribcage of a helpless gaurd. Hold this for a second. Stabes Alastor through a mage watching his eyes widen in fear and cring in pain. Walks to the desk and picks up the papers. Shadowlord you might want to look at these. Runs to the reverie and puts the papers in Shadowlords hand. But quickly turns around and leaps back into the slaughter. Pulls Alastor out of the chest of the mage. Thanks but ill be needing this back. Immediately decapitates the mage.

>The robed man seems to resist Shadowlord's spell. With the help of unseen protections, he gets free and starts casting a spell>
I'll get that one.
>Narad leaps to the ground, near Raven/A. With his sword on his other hand, he starts casting a spell while he runs towards the mage. The mage starts casting a spell of his own. Both finish at the same time, and the mage cancels Narad's own spell. That doesn't matter much though, because Narad got too close. The mage tries to cast another spell, but Narad slashes across his together brought arms. While the mage still screams, Narad swings his sword again and the mage says nothing more.>
I'll help you there Raven
>Goes to finish the job>
RaVeN1463 Posted - 30 Mar 2004 : 02:16:07
Wheres the sport in a enemy that can't fight back,RaVeN/A asks to Shadowlord? But I'll take pleasure their slaughter nonetheless. Comming Ezindir? How about you Narad? I dont want to have to do this ALL myself. With that RaVeN/A leaps into the middle of the room and with overhead blows and midwaist slashes from Alastor.Bringing shock and death to a handfull of helpless magelings and gaurds assigned to protect them.
Shadowlord Posted - 30 Mar 2004 : 01:32:23
Shadowlord finally steps out of the Plane of Shadow, looks to Mlakymib, and responds, "Having a good time? I can tell..." Turning towards Narad, Shadowlord responds, "Though you have lost much of your ability, I believe I have something that will even the odds." Shadowlord gestures and intones in High Netherese, and tentacles of pure shadow reach up from the ground, and hold the men in place. "Evard's Black Tentacles. A spell devised by the Netherese arcanist Evard in Netheril's Shadowed Age. Quite a useful spell, and one of my favorites." Standing back to watch the carnage, Shadowlord says, "I think I'll get some rest now. Worry not, the men below are quite helpless. You may deal with them as you may." Gesturing once more, a Reverie Couch of pure shadow rises from the ground, and Shadowlord sits down and enjoys his Reverie...

>Narad looks down to the men>
I'm ready. Fire at will Ezindir.
RaVeN1463 Posted - 28 Mar 2004 : 21:49:05
I prefer a melee approach I'll slip around the the left corner of the cavern and await your spells to strike. RaVeN/A slips into the shadows and begins to make his way to the corner. Finding a sufficent spot crouches drawing Alastor and waits for Narad and Ezindir to fire their spells
Narad Bladesinger Posted - 28 Mar 2004 : 11:52:04
>Narad lifts one eyebrow, but then recognizes the spell>
Ah, horrid wilting. Now that is heavy magic. That would do nicely and I can drop my fireball just after...
>Looks down to the men>
Are you sure this is our target? If you are, just fire away and I will too.
Ezindir the dark Posted - 28 Mar 2004 : 09:41:13
" I know a powerful death spell, I am sure it would take out a 6-7 people here, and I do also know one of Alcasams, or somthing, never remembers his name, spells. think it is named horror wrilting, or somthing like that. I figure that it would take down 10-20 of them. Anyone else who have anything.
Narad Bladesinger Posted - 28 Mar 2004 : 08:36:25
>Counts the men>
47, and I bet there are people on watch, further away. I can throw a fireball, but we would still be facing though odds. Especially if that mage starts throwing his magics, we are kinda vulnerable here on this ledge..
>Galnces the others>
What shall we do?
Ezindir the dark Posted - 27 Mar 2004 : 20:35:30
"Indeed they are."
Narad Bladesinger Posted - 27 Mar 2004 : 18:45:53
>Narad rises from the floor seeming a bit..distracted. However he senses the danger and gets ready, sword drawn>
When this is over, I swear to any god that hears me...
>Before them the cavern opens. They are standing on a ledge, five meters from the cavern floor. Below them about fifty men are cooking, sleeping and playing dice. They look heavily armed. One man seems particularly intresting, he has a green robe and he sits on some sort of throne. With a closer look it appears to be a heavy wooden chair.>
Is that our target? >Asks from Ezindir>
Ezindir the dark Posted - 27 Mar 2004 : 18:23:35
Ezindir, who have keept to himself and prepeared for the coming battle draws his two short swords. They light up the cave with their fire. He lookes at the others and sees that they are all using swords, so he draws his bow instead.

Narad Bladesinger Posted - 27 Mar 2004 : 09:54:55
>Narad suddently stops, his eyes going wide. He looks around him with a puzzled look on his face. He then turns to Mlakymib>
What did you do to me!? I..I can't feel my psionic powers..
>Drops to his knees>
This can't be..
>Narad reaches his hand and tries to lift a stone on the floor with his powers. The stone moves nowhere>
No..NO!!
>Narad runs towards Mlakymib, sword on his hand. Just as he is about to reach the illithid he crashes to an invisible wall and bounces back. Narad doesn't give up, he calls out to his sword's power and dispels the barrier. With a furious look on his face, Narad again apporoaches Mlakymib. The illithid looks calm and is apparently enjoying the situation. With a small motion, Mlakymib sends Narad flying through the cavern. Narad hits a wall and falls to the floor>

RaVeN1463 Posted - 26 Mar 2004 : 23:43:34
I think we are getting close i can feel power eminating from the northeast passage. Its either a very powerful mage or a powerful artifact. Walks over to the body of the dead human I tire of this form I think ill change back. Gets some blood from the body and begains to trace a symbol in the dirt. Scratches his chin looking at the rune reaches into his pack and withdraws an amulet and two rings. Placing his Rings at the left and right points of the Rune. Sticking his two short shords in the ground at the two base points and stabing Alastor into the top of the Rune. Places the amulet around his neck and begins the Ritual ALASTOR I CALL UPON YOU, GRANT ME THE POWER I SEEKAs he finishes the words the swords and rings charge with energy and the energy flows into the blood. In the center of the Rune a drastic transformation begins where RaVeN stood, now stood the essence of the Sword Alastor. RaVeN looks at his Thunderform with satisfaction speads his black wings to the ceiling of the cavern So good to be in my true form again. Reaches over and picks up his rings and short swords putting them back in there sheaths and the rings on his demonic claws. I couldnt have RaVeN getting my trapped in this cave he was a good puppet, and transportation but I grow tired of him. Now lets continue and kill this puny mage.

>Narad slowly rises from the ground. When he gets up he gives the illithid a not very friendly look>
The portal took me to a nice place. On this prime material plane, actually. An illithd city it was and it had an army of illithids backing it up.
>Gives a smile to Mlakymib>
Still can't devour my brains? A real shame.
Anyway, I had a though time fighting my way through all those illithids, but finally I was able to escape.
>Starts laughing>
But my mistake. I thought the illithid would really have a duel of minds. So all I now know about it's powers is that it can call out to his kin for help. Powerful indeed...
Like fish on dry land...
>Narad does a circular motion with his hands and his wounds are healed>
RaVeN1463 Posted - 26 Mar 2004 : 01:24:52
What a pity. Mlakymib didnt finish you off in the Astral plane, what a pity.
Cherrn Posted - 26 Mar 2004 : 01:05:33
As the group prepares to move on a vertical portal appears in front of them. Out of it falls Narad who hits the ground with a loud thud. Narad looks up at the group with a look of confusion on his face, a face that is sporting a tiny cut above the left cheekbone. Cherrn Yn Ravva El Hammaine smiles at the elf. Welcome back Narad, here's your sword back. Cherrn Yn Ravva El Hammaine gives Narad his sword back hilt first. Cherrn Yn Ravva El Hammaine chuckles

Now can we please get along ? Shadowlord obviously brought Mlakymib here because he can do something you cant Narad. Otherwise Mlakymib wouldn't be here. So put your jealousy of Mlakymib's powers aside Narad and lets get going!
RaVeN1463 Posted - 26 Mar 2004 : 00:47:46
Drawing his giant thundersword Alastor Yes lets continued.
Cherrn Posted - 26 Mar 2004 : 00:35:12
Cherrn Yn Ravva El Hammaine laughs loudly when Narad jumps through the portal

Yes give in to your anger elf, that's exactly what the illithid wants.

Cherrn Yn Ravva El Hammaine looks at the others and smiles

Watch.

A portal appears in front of the group, out of it steps the illithid Mlakymib. The words "foolish elf" booms in the minds of the group. Something that resembles a smile appears on the face of Mlakymib.

"That's what the elf gets for underestimating me!"

Mlakymib throws Narad's sword on the ground

"If he comes back then he can have it again. One so inexperienced in Astral travel really shouldn't go there to fight one who is the master of such a place. It was like... hmmm how you do say... Like watching a fish on land!"

Mlakymib waves his tentacles in amusement

Cherrn Yn Ravva El Hammaine smiles at the illithid, then picks up Narad's sword

I'll keep it safe for him. Now shall we get going ?
