I'm looking to field some interesting, and fairly unique constructs of my own design -- inspired somewhat by my own love of constructs and clockwork creatures -- into something that will form part of a "secret project" I'm currently tinkering with.

In preparation, I've put aside most of the 3e D&D/FR sources that deal with any type of constructs, as well as most relevant 2e sources -- most notably being Van Richten's Guide to the Created and the few sections in the two Ruins of Undermountain boxed sets.

What I'm looking for though... are 3rd party books that some of my fellow scribes may have purchased in the past and thought were fairly useful. Or maybe you've heard about particularly informative 3rd party tomes on the subject. I've got a small listing of my own that I want to check up on, however I thought I'd see what the rest of you can come up with.

Thoughts?

Hey... Big Al was the one who gave me the staff in the first place. So, what does that tell you?

I'm so tempted right now to spoil your secret Sage.

I am certain Imaskari fans would have a blast to see what you've got planned!

I dont know do you reckon Alias actually counts as a construct in the 3ed definition of the word?

Alias is a living being she has a Constitution

Alias doesnt have low or Dark vision

Alias can be healed by cure spells (Im pretty sure dragonbait healed her with Lay on hands in one of the novels

Alias does need to eat, sleep and breathe

Shes flesh and blood she doesnt have gears and shes not made out of your typical construct materials like Iron, stone etc

Id argue that shes no more construct then Manshoons clones

George may have been referring to the "Magical Life" treatise in the Alias write-up. Since it provides notes on magical creations, constructs, and golems for example, it could be of some potential use for this project.

Besides, I'm assuming George is looking at Alias's write-up in Hall of Heroes as an example of a magical creation -- similar to, though not exactly like, the creation of magical constructs and/or magical weapons.

Not only that, but we know that at least one of Alias's "sisters" -- Cat -- has had children.

Thanks Knight.

Hey Sage, I know you aren't averse to checking out Eberron sources, so you likely already found this one, but have you looked at the Clockwork Wonders articles on the Eberron side of WOTC's site?

You might want to try Dog Soul's Golemcraft 101, available at http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=6294& (Sorry I can never [url] code to work for me).

It gives rules on how to make your own constructs.

Still trying to find a way to work that idea into a Realms campaign, and if I do, I'll likely pick the book up myself.

I think I've got the Monsternomicon as well, though the 3e version and not the 3.5 updated book, which is said to include a few new entries.

Sorcery & Steam I'd forgotten about. That's on the list now.

Yeah, the soulmechs. That's what I was thinking of.

Other then those books, that all I got for references.

The Dragonstar material from Fantasy Flight Games has some constructs in them, but that setting is more sci-fi D&D. Um Sorcery & Steam from the same company should have some but I didn't grab my copy to check, however that's a steampunk D&D type of book.

Mongoose's MGP1004, Encyc Arcane – Constructs - It Is Alive, is also useful.

The problem with these sourcebooks is a lot of it is 3e and out of print already. :(
