I'm currently running the 2nd edition Adventure "For Duty and Deity"
I've followed the plot, but the whole adventure seems to be a bit too fast going and without many possibilities for the PC to explore the Abyssal or the Triple Realm. I kind of lead them from encounter to encounter, but find hardly many possibilities to let them shape the adventure.

Right now, I'm in Zamorra, the capital of Grazz'ts Triple Realm. The adventure suggest, that a drunken Tanar'ri tells the PC everything that they need to know to rescue Waukeen, but to be honest I really don't want to make it so easy for them.
I also don't like the idea of a Tanar'ri falling in love with a party member (Demons ini my campaign are immortal thoroughly evil creatures without even the slightest hint of goodness whose sole purpose of existence is to spread chaos and evil)

Do you have any ideas of some adventure hooks in the Triple Realm and some idea to wrestle the knowledge about Grazz'ts caravan? (aside from the drunken fiend)

Van Richten's Guide to fiends suggest, that any engagement in the plots of fiends mostly results in a shattered mind. Any suggestions how to threat to shatter the minds of some PC? I would really like them to feel the horror of hell

We're going to continue the adventure today, so I wonder how things will turn out.

I have thought, that Mefisto will betray the party, but since he always spreads wrong rumours the party will have about one day, in which they will be left in (relative) peace. Afterwards, somebody will check them and then "hell will break loose"

Does anybody has side adventures in Azzagrat, that I could include? Would be interesting to put some more depth into the adventure!

CE? As long as he doesn't stand to lose by doing so, I'd readily have him turn around and sell information about the PCs -- and their questions and apparent goals -- to anyone who is interested. I'd only have him keep quiet if he fears the info hurting him.

The insanity idea sounds great!

I have one further question:
The party bribed Mefisto (Zelatar'S town crier, tiefling, CE) to share some information. After the advice of their guide, they bribed him extraordinarly high (25k GP!), but were rather unwise in asking him only questions about Waukeen. (and thus made it obvious what they are up to!) Since I believe he should be one of the best informed beeings in Zelatar, he told them a lot - but nothing, that could get him into serious troubles with Grazz't

Now my quesion: Should he betray the party, or be content with the amount? (25k GP is a huge fortune in my campaign!) He was also one of the first persons to ask, they haven't learned yet, where the entrance to Maretta's accounting house is. (that would be the ridiculous "drunken-fiend-who-can't-keep-his-mouth-shut" scene)

Hmh, good suggestions, Knight Reminds me of a mad-as-a-hatter priest of the Night Tortoise in a Waterdeep campaign (poor Ruffus thought that anyone with patience enough to listen to his incomprehensible rantings as "marked by Kampadlan")

Speaking of insanity, if you want the PCs to be able to get some information from the demon that is suppose to be drunk, what you could do is make the demon insane instead. Create a specific for of psychosis, and if the PCs "catch on" to the particular peculiarities of the demon, they might start to understand the cryptic clues that he gives them. Instead of falling in love with a PC, the demon could actually see someone that starts to understand them as a "chosen one" some kind of prophet that they should be following or aiding somehow.

Unfortunatley I don't have that module...

lol ...to be honest mine are hardly better, the only reason why they do so is, that they escaped Castle Spulzeer before, but the Dark Powers have marked them on their forehead. Since only direct devine intervention of a deity can erase this mark they didn't have much choice. If they don't rescue Waukeen they will be drawn into Ravenloft next time they enter the Etheral (everything just a question of motivation *hehe*)

Do you have any side adventures? I'd rather take the time for some side adventure then haste them through the module?

Use Sanity Points, if your players respond better to numerical disadvantages, that is. There are a number of systems out there, for both 2nd and 3rd edition. The core Ravenloft set has a good group of rules for 2ed, and Unearthed Arcana has a good set for 3rd. (UA also has Taint, which I would think is appropriate for Hell itself.)

I would also RP it up a bit. Nightmares are pretty good, if descriptive. In addition, make sure that the PC's run into a similar situation as they encountered in Hell that shattered their sanity, and then force some will saves. Penalties as appropriate.

You could tie it in with the Tales of the Infinite Staircase module from Planescale since the two are companion modules.

I agree, this idea is truly ridiculous.... I really wonder, why the designer didn't come up with an better idea

The only thing, that matters in the Abyss is power and beeing "roaring drunken" surely is not to be considered powerful...
