Okay I have returned for a moment to sap the creativity from your minds like a hungry Mind Flayer. I need some help developing a plot for a adventure that takes our player to the seas of sword coast on a mystical journey of piracy.

If anyone could help me get the juices flowing with some kind of interesting yes not overused plot I would be ever so happy.

there was a 2nd ed module based on the moonshaes called the halls of the high king that faced the party with some banites

I have a Cyricist blackguard wannabe in my Waterdeep game who was raised to hate Bane, and I have another character who wants to be a sea captain, so I'm trying to put together a swashbuckling blackguard cyricist adventure on the high seas.

My idea is to send the characters pirating around Mintarn looking for Banite booty (ehehe), maybe some smuggling and random assassinations. Should be fun.

I've worked out an adventure sequence based on published aventures, just to see if the story floats, as follows: “Pirate Sea Cave Stronghold”, see Dungeon 106 (any level); “Salvage Operation”, see Dungeon 123 (2nd level characters); “Tammeraut’s Fate”, see Dungeon 106 (6th level characters); “Curse of the Rusty Walrus”, Frostburn WE?.

If based on the Sword Coast, you may also want to give topics a look that deal with pirates and Waterdeep, such as "Skullport".
If you want to lead them a bit further astray, look to the Moonshaes, there are nice plot ideas in the two Trilogies.

your pirates are good adventurers (like Sinbad from the old movies) or evil cuthroats?
if they intend to be good they stick to traditional adventures but based on the sea, like fighting pirates and discovering ruins
if they are going to be evil, raids, slavering and pillaging can be add to the others

Here's a plot idea: someone (pick a group, any group) has discovered the wrecks of a fleet of elven vessels sunk crossing to Evermeet (nod to Lost Library of Cormanthyr). Your pirates want to jump claim on it.

Did you know there is in fact a Pirates of the Sword Coast Neverwinter Nights premium module? I've played it, and it's fun.

That may be true, but I offered the two tomes in support of your "creativity" -- each of the Volo's Guides provide more than enough useful and curious adventure nuggets that can be used to build campaigns on.

Try reading the material again. You're sure to come up with something...

Ok, just because I'm such a Ravenloft Junky, I'm going to relate to a handy, effective way of getting a plot going.

Pirates are generally superstitious, right? In fact, heavily so. One thing you could do is introduce the pirates to a 'sea witch' of some sort, who will tell their fortunes with a tarot deck. Just go online somewhere (there are tons of them) and print off one with a fantasy theme. Randomly draw them, say 5 for each character (general, past, present, future, overall) or maybe even more if you want to. Then keep record of them, and then have their results subtly come up again in the campaign.

Maybe is important too, to make up an idea about the chars playing first, who are the female ones, the most inclined to a betrayal act, if have seen that's important to have the chars first... only my opinion.

I have no clue what the the pc's will be like.. They have a choice of being Dwarf, Gnome, Elf, Half-elf, Human, Half-Orc.. Beyond the PC having to be born in Luskan or Baldurs gate or any other port city on the sword coast there wont be and limiting their past.

Really I just want one of those shocking plots of friendship and betrayal using a fresh idea that leaves everyone satisfied.. Oh and there has to be a cyricist.. Kidding

Well tell us more about your PC's then. We need a little more info about the characters, or at least I do because I make ideas around the PC's as well as other ideas that have nothing to do with the PC's.... or so they think. :)

You might wish to check out Green Ronin's D20 series of Freeport books. That locale has an strong pirate theme with plot details that could easily be adapted to the Realms.

Lands of Intrigue also details some of the Nelathder Isles (sp?) as does Volo's Guide to BG II.

A good place to start would be the two Volo's Guides dealing with the area -- namely Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast and Volo's Guide to the North. Both tomes provide details on the local pirate activity in the region.
