I like the new maps artwork but I find myself going back to the old maps of The North boxed set and the old 2E maps more and more for reference. I think my players like them better, plus I think they just make more sense.
Agree? Disagree?

One of my players has this tool and it has been quite useful. Thus, I can more than understand your desire.

An excellent way to deal with the situation. Either that or blame the elves as they are usually responsible for messed up things anyway.

I use every map I can find. There are some maps that show just the right amount of territory for the players. I chalk the discrepency up to just that people weren't perfect at making maps. It adds some flexibility and uncertainty in. Do the players have bogus maps? They never know.

Now if someone could take a few weeks at WOTC to get the detail of the AD&D maps with the visual appeal of the new one that would be nice. I hate looking in 5 places to find something when the older maps have everything.

If they didn't at least consult City of Splendors first, I'm going to be very disapointed.

With regard to the continental drift theory, I'd anticipate quite a few more mountain ranges or at least increase the height of the pre-existing ones. The amount of convergent plate movement in the last 30 years has been enormous. This would lead to quite a few new mountain ranges or at the very least significantly increase the height of the existing ones.

Can E.G. talk about any cartographic spoilers?

I don't even know if Ed Greenwood is working on the Waterdeep game product. I thought the last I heard, he was simply being consulted.

Oy! I sure hope not, but maybe im not that thrilled with WOTC and I have a feeling that that would happen!

If they make it an islet I'll burn the whole place to the ground.

I use a mixture of the Maps. To be honest I like the newer maps visual Style, I feel this helps greatly when playing IC. "This 'ere is the town I want ya young scally-waggs to travel to. Yer best route would be along 'ere"

This alows me to explain at least some of the 'inacturicies' that occur between the two editions.

I betya Mr Greenwood gets p*ssed off with so many changes getitng made to his campaign world.

The North Boxed set is also great for 2e maps Elf-Friend, but you mentioned you already had that product.

Continental Drift! Good line, I have to remember that one.

I thought it was amusing.

Waterdeep boxed set if you ever run campaigns within that city.

Well that's exactly it. A lot of stuff is just gone or not labeled! There are some changes that I like, such as Hellgate Keep being engulfed in the High Forest. Some of the new towns that have cropped up etc. What I may do is get the ESD's of the 2E box and print them out in color so I have a map to label the new stuff on.

What other source books from 2E would be recommended that have good maps on them?

I agree with Kuje31.

I use the 1e and 2e maps. I don't care for the continental drift that took place with the 3e maps. :) I prefer the more open land then having borders and in some cases half the countries removed for no reason other then, "there was to much open space so we cut it."

When I met Ed in Canada, it seems he doesn't really like the "new and improved" maps either. :)
SiriusBlack Posted - 14 Jun 2004 : 14:05:48
I think it depends on the setting for the campaign. I can see why some individuals might prefer 2e maps. For example, the Waterdeep map hangs in one of the rooms of my house. Do you think I'll get such a finely detailed map from the upcoming 3.5e tome for this city? I doubt it, unless each street has information on a new prestige class.
