It's an offspring question...

A elven aasimar has a child with a human. What would the child be?

1.) Half-Elf
2.) Human
3.) Aasimars can't breed.
4.) Something completely different

Any help would be appreciated.

Of course, PO kind of failed exactly because S&P was its core and the most raw book and, well, the one where chief designer was not Richard Baker, but this doesn't make S&P useless. I rate psionics as "borked", but character points system only "to be used with care", i.e. needs an attentive GM. In Dragon articles there were expansions, including rules for character generation in other settings - Dark Sun, Ravenloft, Planescape - including planar races, of course.

As for a third party product, maybe Aasimar & Tieflings: A guidebook to the Planetouched by Robert J. Schwalb from Green Ronin does help you a bit aswell.

In-'verse, most likely, a mix, i.e. Half-elf with Aasimar traits. But possibly one set of traits is dominant, and defines what the character is as a magical creature.
Now, how to model it...

  • In AD&D2, you either take a default human-based Aasimar and add half-elf traits (looks tough, but they somewhat overlap, then again, you had an Elven Aasimar in the first place), or simply say "traits from this set are completely dominant".

  • In PO:S&P ("AD&D2.5") you do the same, but since all traits are picked in CP-based constructor, it's best to allow both sets without worrying about balance: take Half-Elf traits, then add Aasimar (+Planar common, if appropriate) picks on top and observe how fast the character points pool is drying.
    Half-elf: 25 CP; standard skill package: Infravision 60'(10); Sleep/Charm Resistance 30% (5); Detect Secret Doors (5); Languages* (free); +5.
    Aasimar: 40 CP; standard skill package: Cold resistance (5), Fire resistance (5), Infravision 60'(5)(shouldn't it be 30'/5?), Magic resistance 10% (10), Mental fortitude +2 (5), Surprise bonus (5); +5. +up to 4*5 from racial weaknesses.
    Mix: Either take a Half-elf with one lesser ability from Aasimar list (with one weakness, 2*5 or 10), or Aasimar with 20 CP pre-spent on Half-elf traits (but again, they overlap).

  • In 3.x you can use templates, or add Bloodline levels (Celestial) of the strength you consider appropriate for remoteness and HD of the Celestial ancestor.
    Or if the ancestor's exact subrace is known, devise your own variant of Celestial Bloodline - because e.g. manifestations of Firre blood could be... peculiar.

That is not quite correct. In Dragon 350, there was an article that gave us demihuman planetouched, including celadrin. The article was "Legacies of Ancient Empires" by Eric L. Boyd.

The article was Realms-specific, and covered four types of Faerūnian planetouched: azerbloods (shield dwarves and azers), celadrin (elven worshippers of Hanali Celanil and eladrins (usually firre)), d'hin (singular d'hin'ni, lightfoot halflings and djinni), and worghests (barghests and goblins).

Oh, and Sean K. Reynolds had something similar to celadrins on his website: eladree. His eladree are the same basic concept as celadrin, but rather predate them. I'd allow either, if I was DM'ing.

There was also a third-party book of planetouched called Children of the Planes; it may have been pdf-only. That book had Bralinsidhe (elf and bralani) and korali (elf and succubus).

As far as I know, it hasn't been described in 3e rules (fey'ri are elven tieflings, but I haven't seen elven versions of the other planetouched races), and you're on your own to define it for your own games.

I don't see any unusual issues with a half-something offspring, given that humans and outsiders are apparently cross-fertile with pretty much everything, including elves. I would start with a half-elf and add some minor celestial-based details in the physical description. Maybe a +2 to Cha. Not much in the way of magical abilities, unless you want to add a Level Adjustment.

Just my thoughts.
