Posted - 22 Mar 2012 : 04:10:05 Ok got it, Monster Manual 1, p.7, under Feat. It pretty much sums up what I've said before. |

Posted - 21 Mar 2012 : 20:29:24 Of course. Animals gets a feat just for being alive (1 HD or less), and an additional feat at HD 3, 6, 9 and so on. For example an elephant (11 HD) has 4 feats while a lion (5 HD) gets only 2. Since the Animal Companion class ability grants additional HD to the base creature, it is allowed to grant feats when the creature's HD reaches a level where a PC would get a feat.
I suspect some animals may have bonus feats, but not that I know of. I could be wrong, but animals might also be illegible to the +1 attribute bonus every 4 HDs.
I'm not sure about the source for any of this, I'll let you know once I gain access to my books later.

Posted - 21 Mar 2012 : 16:21:47 You might have found your answer by now, but they do. Animals, or any creatures, is allowed a feat for HD increase. This applies to animal companions as well. |

Posted - 12 Mar 2012 : 20:09:10 You know,it's funny. I just had this discussion with my DM. I believe that they do based on what is says in the back of the Monster Manual, but he did not see things my way.
If you are playing Pathfinder, there is a chart in the Core book that shows exactly how many feats you're animal companion recieves based on extra HD.
